November through April offers the most comfortable weather, low humidity, minimal rain, and calm seas ideal for snorkeling and diving trips from the park marina. Winter and early spring are peak season, so campground reservations fill far in advance, especially on weekends and holidays. May and October are good shoulder months with warm water and lighter crowds but rising humidity. June through September brings hot, humid days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and peak Atlantic hurricane season, which can force trip cancellations.

Guided snorkel tours depart from the park marina to shallow patch reefs in the protected sanctuary waters offshore. Trips typically last about 2.5 hours and are suitable for beginners, with equipment rentals available on site.
The glass-bottom boat tour is the easiest way to see the living coral reef without getting wet, ideal for families and non-swimmers. The catamaran cruises to reefs about 6 miles offshore with views of tropical fish, corals, and occasional sea turtles.
Certified divers can visit the iconic Christ of the Abyss, a 9-foot bronze statue submerged in about 25 feet of water at Key Largo Dry Rocks. The concessionaire runs two-tank charter dives from the park marina.
Kayak and canoe rentals give paddlers access to a marked mangrove creek trail winding through tidal tunnels and tropical hardwood shoreline. The sheltered route is suitable for novice paddlers on calm days.
Cannon Beach is a small swimming beach with a replica shipwreck and scattered cannons in shallow water just offshore, great for easy snorkeling from shore. Picnic tables and restrooms are steps from the sand.
This short interpretive loop passes through dense tropical hardwood hammock with gumbo limbo, mahogany, and wild tamarind trees. The flat trail is shaded and takes most visitors under 30 minutes.
The visitor center features a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, reef exhibits, and short nature films that orient visitors before heading out on the water. It is a good rainy-day stop for RV travelers.
Anglers can fish from shore, bring a boat to the ramp, or book charters running into surrounding waters outside the no-take sanctuary zones. A Florida saltwater fishing license is required for adults.

I recently had the pleasure of renting Mark and Cyndi's RV for a two-week vacation across Florida, and I cannot recommend them enough! The entire process, from the initial inquiry to returning the RV, was seamless, professional, and friendly. Here's what made my experience exceptional: Communication: Mark and Cyndi were prompt, clear, and informative in their communication. They made sure I knew everything I needed to before embarking on my adventure and were readily available to answer any questions I had during my trip. The RV: Their RV was in pristine condition and exceptionally clean. It was evident that they take great pride in maintaining their vehicle. The RV was spacious, comfortable, and equipped with all the essential amenities, making my vacation feel like a true "home away from home." Orientation and Support: Upon pickup, Mark and Cyndi provided a thorough orientation of the RV, ensuring I was comfortable with all its features and operations. They also provided a comprehensive guidebook and videos, which were extremely helpful during the trip. Additionally, they were always just a phone call away whenever I needed assistance or had questions.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, FL, United States
The park is located at mile marker 102.5 on U.S. Highway 1 (the Overseas Highway) in Key Largo, Florida. From Miami it is about 60 miles and 1.5 to 2 hours south, and from Homestead it is roughly 30 miles. RV drivers should plan for slow two-lane sections, narrow bridges, and heavy seasonal traffic along the Overseas Highway, and should check clearance and weight on the Card Sound Road alternate route, which includes a toll bridge. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Miami International Airport (MIA), with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) a secondary option.
