Late May through early September offers the warmest weather, open ferry service, full campground operation, and swimmable Lake Erie water temperatures. July and August are peak season with the busiest beach and campground, so reservations should be made well in advance. June and September are strong shoulder-season choices, with lighter crowds, working ferry schedules, and comfortable days for hiking and cycling. Ferry frequency drops sharply after mid-October, and most park services close for the winter.

The Glacial Grooves are a 400-foot-long, 15-foot-deep furrow carved into limestone bedrock by the Laurentide Ice Sheet and are a designated National Natural Landmark. A short paved loop with interpretive signs encircles the grooves and is just steps from the main parking lot near the park office.
North Bay Beach is the park's main swimming beach, with a sandy shoreline, shallow Lake Erie water, and views across to the Marblehead Peninsula. Picnic tables, restrooms, and a large day-use parking area serve beachgoers.
The North Shore Loop Trail is a short, mostly flat path along the island's rocky north coast with overlooks of Lake Erie and interpretive signs about local geology. It connects the campground area to the glacial grooves site.
The East Quarry Trail is a multi-use loop through reclaimed limestone quarry lands now dotted with ponds, meadows, and woodlands. It is popular for birdwatching and easy walking, with a trailhead parking lot suitable for smaller RVs and tow vehicles.
Inscription Rock is a large flat limestone boulder on the island's south shore carved with Native American pictographs hundreds of years old. A roadside pullout and viewing platform sit just off Water Street near the ferry dock.
The park provides a four-lane boat ramp on the north side of the island, giving quick access to Lake Erie's western basin, which is famed for walleye, smallmouth bass, and yellow perch fishing. Trailer parking is available at the launch.
Bicycles and rented golf carts are popular ways to tour Kelleys Island's roughly 10-mile perimeter, which links the state park, downtown village, wineries, and historic sites. The route is mostly flat and uses low-traffic island roads.
We just wrapped up a wonderful family reunion using Jose as our trailer host on our family property. Jose was great at communicating timing for delivery and pick up and when we had questions about the fridge and furnace, drove out of his way to help. The service was fantastic. I would recommend this camper for a park set up instead of off grid based on our own personal needs, but Jose and his trailer were really great! Thank you again!

Great week in David’s camper! It has a lot of storage and space so it doesn’t feel cramped and you can keep it tidy. David was a great host, communication and timeliness was spot on. Thanks David!

The trailer was the perfect size for our family of four — comfortable, spacious, and well-equipped. It had all the necessary amenities and was exceptionally clean. We had a great experience and would definitely consider renting again!

Kelleys Island State Park, OH, United States
Kelleys Island sits in Lake Erie and is reached only by ferry, with the Kelleys Island Ferry departing from Marblehead, Ohio, roughly a one-hour drive from Toledo and about a 75-minute drive from Cleveland. RV travelers should confirm vehicle length and height with the ferry operator before booking, as larger motorhomes and trailers require advance reservations and pay by length. There are no major mountain grades, but the approach on SR-163 into Marblehead includes narrow streets near the ferry dock, so drivers of longer rigs should arrive early. The closest commercial airports for fly-and-rent trips are Cleveland Hopkins International and Toledo Express.
