Keyhole Reservoir is the park's centerpiece, with multiple boat ramps and a marina serving powerboats, sailboats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. Open coves and quiet bays make it a relaxed paddling lake. All watercraft launching on Wyoming waters require a current AIS decal, with inflatables 10 feet or less exempt.
The reservoir is one of northeast Wyoming's best-known warmwater fisheries, with walleye, smallmouth bass, northern pike, catfish, perch, and crappie. Anglers fish from boats and from accessible shoreline points throughout the park. A Wyoming fishing license is required.
A designated swim beach offers a sandy area for cooling off during summer heat. Adjacent picnic areas have tables, shade shelters, and parking large enough for tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
Keyhole's mix of prairie, shoreline, and ponderosa pine attracts a wide variety of wildlife, including white-tailed deer, pronghorn, wild turkeys, and waterfowl. Migrating pelicans, eagles, and shorebirds are highlights for birders during spring and fall.
Devils Tower is an easy day trip from Keyhole, lying northwest of the park via I-90 and US 14. The monument is located about 27 miles northwest of Sundance, and its visitor center, paved Tower Trail, and picnic areas are accessible to RV travelers.
The Bearlodge Ranger District of Black Hills National Forest lies just east of the park around Sundance. The district covers roughly 200,000 acres in the northwestern Black Hills within Wyoming, with trout fishing, snowmobile trails, hunting, hiking, and camping nearby. Forest roads and short hikes give RVers a cool, forested contrast to the prairie reservoir.
Far from major city lights, Keyhole offers excellent dark skies on clear nights. Open lakeside campsites and day-use areas give wide horizon views of the Milky Way during summer.
