April through June and September through October are the best months for RV travel, with mild daytime temperatures, cool nights, and lower risk of summer thunderstorms. Midsummer brings hot afternoons and monsoon storms that can cause flash flooding on unpaved side roads. Winter stays open but nights drop below freezing and occasional snow can dust the red rock. Spring and fall also line up well with visits to nearby Bryce Canyon and Grand Staircase-Escalante.

Panorama Trail is the park's signature hike, a roughly 3-mile loop through sand pipes, hoodoos, and red rock formations with several optional spurs. Trailhead parking accommodates passenger vehicles and most RVs when arriving early. Optional extensions lead to Panorama Point and the Big Bear Geyser Trail.
Angel's Palace Trail is a short uphill hike that climbs onto a plateau with sweeping views over the basin and its sandstone spires. The loop is about 1.5 miles with some exposed edges near the top. It is a good sunset option close to the campground.
Grand Parade Trail is a flat, family-friendly loop under 2 miles that passes towering sand pipes and two short box-canyon spurs. The gentle grade makes it suitable for most ability levels. Interpretive signs explain the park's unusual geology.
Shakespeare Arch and Sentinel Trail is a roughly 1.7-mile loop that passes viewpoints of the original arch area and the Sentinel rock formation. The route crosses open desert with little shade. Carry water and start early in warmer months.
Eagle's View Trail is a short but steep climb up the park's western rim, gaining around 500 feet in under a mile each way. The overlook provides wide views toward Bryce Canyon and the Table Cliff Plateau. Loose footing makes sturdy shoes important.
Cottonwood Canyons Scenic Backway is a 46-mile route that starts at Cannonville and heads south through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The road is paved for 9 miles between Cannonville and the turnoff to Kodachrome Basin State Park, then turns to dirt. Large RVs should turn around at the state park; high-clearance vehicles are recommended beyond. blm.gov/visit/cottonwood-canyons-scenic-backway
Stargazing is a highlight thanks to the park's remote location and minimal light pollution. The open basin floor and campground amphitheater offer clear sightlines for the Milky Way on moonless nights. Bring a red-light headlamp to preserve night vision.
Bryce Canyon National Park is roughly a 30-minute drive from Kodachrome Basin, making it an easy day trip from the campground. RVers can leave larger rigs set up and drive tow vehicles to the hoodoo viewpoints along the scenic rim road. Early mornings avoid the busiest parking lots.

Salt Lake City is around a 4.5-hour drive north, and Las Vegas is roughly 4.5 hours southwest.
