July and August are the warmest months and best for swimming, paddling, and lake use, with water temperatures in Lake Carmi among the warmest of any Vermont state park. Late June and early September are good shoulder-season choices for RV travelers who want cooler nights and easier reservations. Mid-September to early October delivers northern Vermont fall foliage along the lake and bog edges. The park is a seasonal operation and is closed from late fall through mid-spring.

The park's sandy swim beach is the centerpiece of summer activity on Lake Carmi. The shallow, warm water is well suited to families, and a day-use parking area accommodates vehicles and tow rigs.
Lake Carmi is one of the larger natural lakes in Vermont and is open to motorboats, kayaks, and canoes. A boat launch inside the park provides trailer access, and rentals are seasonally available from the park concession.
Lake Carmi is a warm-water fishery known for walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass. Anglers can fish from shore, the boat launch area, or by boat with a valid Vermont fishing license.
A short interpretive trail leads visitors toward the edge of the Lake Carmi peat bog, one of the largest in Vermont and a designated State Natural Area. The route is flat and family friendly, passing through forest and wetland habitat.
The bog and shoreline wetlands host a variety of waterfowl, songbirds, and occasional moose and deer sightings. Early morning and evening near the bog edge offer the best viewing opportunities.
A lakeside day-use area offers picnic tables and open grass for gatherings within walking distance of the beach. Larger RV-friendly parking is available at the day-use lot near the park entrance.
The regional Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail runs through nearby Enosburg Falls and St. Albans, offering a flat crushed-stone path popular with cyclists and walkers. It makes an easy half-day outing from the campground.

Lake Carmi State Park, VT, United States
The park is in the town of Franklin in Franklin County, about 15 miles north of St. Albans and roughly 50 miles (a one-hour drive) north of Burlington via Interstate 89 and Vermont Route 105/Route 236. Montreal is approximately 65 miles to the north, with a border crossing at East Franklin/Morses Line. Access roads are paved rural routes with no tunnels or major mountain passes, but the final approach on Vermont Route 236 includes narrow lanes and tight turns that require slow driving in larger rigs. Burlington International Airport (BTV) is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips.
