The best months to visit are November through April, when cooler, drier weather makes hiking, fishing, and sitting outside the RV far more comfortable and mosquitoes are less active. Winter also brings peak birding as migratory species move through the marshes. Late spring and summer are hot, humid, and prone to daily thunderstorms, though campsites are easier to book outside the snowbird season. Hurricane season runs from June through November, so RV travelers should monitor forecasts in late summer and early fall.

The Live Oak Nature Trail is a short loop through hardwood hammock leading to one of the largest live oak trees in Florida. Interpretive signs explain the marsh and upland ecosystems along the way.
Lake Griffin is known for bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish, making it a popular stop for freshwater anglers. The park offers a fishing pier and a boat ramp accessible to registered campers and day users.
Paddlers can rent canoes or kayaks at the park concession and explore a marsh run that connects to the main lake. The route is calm and well suited to beginners, with frequent alligator and wading-bird sightings.
The marshes and oak hammocks host alligators, turtles, osprey, anhingas, and a variety of wading birds. Early morning around the boat basin and nature trail offers the best chances for photos.
Seasonal guided pontoon tours operated by the park concession take visitors through the marsh run and onto Lake Griffin. Tours are a good option for campers who did not bring their own boat.
Shaded picnic areas with tables and grills sit near the lake and playground. The day-use area is a short walk from the campground, making it easy to spend the afternoon outside the RV.
The historic lakeside town of Mount Dora is about 20 miles south and makes an easy half-day trip. Its walkable downtown offers antique shops, restaurants, and lakefront views without needing to move the RV.
Scott is great!!! Good communication, great RV and if something isn’t quite right, he takes care of it. Will rent from him again!!! A++++

Had a great experience renting from Scott. The RV was easy to manage for our first time renting one and Scott was very easy to get in touch with if we needed anything.

My wife and I had a fantastic experience! The camper is well maintained, clean and comfortable. Couldn't have asked for more. I would like to add that the a/c worked perfectly, given the Florida weather even during the holiday season. Stephanie was a dream to work with, she has a great personality and made sure that we were well taken care of.

Great little camper. We will definitely rent it again

Lake Griffin State Park, FL, United States
The park sits just off U.S. Highway 441 near Fruitland Park, roughly 55 miles (about 1 hour) northwest of Orlando and about 35 miles (45 minutes) south of Ocala. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent RV travelers, with Orlando Sanford International (SFB) a closer alternative. The approach is flat Central Florida terrain with no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades, but drivers should watch for low-clearance live oak branches on the entrance road and tight turns inside the campground loop. Rigs should follow posted park routes rather than GPS shortcuts through residential streets.
