Late May through early October is the prime window, when the campground is fully open, the beach is staffed seasonally, and warm days suit swimming, fishing, and paddling. June and September are good shoulder-season choices for cooler temperatures and smaller crowds. July and August bring peak humidity and summer thunderstorms, so RV travelers should plan for heat and reserve sites in advance. April and October offer crisp weather and fall color but limited services.

Lake Keomah is an 84-acre lake stocked by the Iowa DNR, offering bank and boat fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. A paved boat ramp and accessible fishing jetty make it easy for RV travelers to launch small boats or fish from shore.
The park's sand swim beach on the north shore is a popular summer spot for families. Changing facilities and picnic tables are nearby, with nearby parking that accommodates tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
Several miles of hiking trails loop through oak-hickory woodlands and along the lakeshore, giving access to quiet coves and CCC stonework. Trails are generally short and rolling, suitable for most fitness levels.
Historic stone picnic shelters built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s are scattered across the park. Day-use areas include tables, grills, and drinking water, with parking loops that fit trucks and smaller RVs.
Lake Keomah's electric-motor-only rules keep the water calm and ideal for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. The boat ramp provides easy put-in access for car-top craft.
The park's mix of woodland, prairie, and lake habitat attracts songbirds, waterfowl, white-tailed deer, and wild turkey. Spring and fall migrations are especially rewarding for birders walking the quiet trail loops.
When snow and ice conditions allow, the park is open for cross-country skiing, sledding, and ice fishing. Facilities are limited in winter, so RV travelers should plan for self-contained stays.
Always an easy booking and great service!

The park sits about 6 miles east of Oskaloosa, Iowa, off State Highway 371, roughly 60 miles southeast of Des Moines (about 1 hour 15 minutes) and about 90 miles west of the Quad Cities. Access roads are paved two-lane county and state highways with no tunnels, mountain passes, or significant grades, making it straightforward for RVs of all sizes. Watch for narrow park entrance roads and tight turns near the campground loops. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Des Moines International Airport (DSM).
