Late spring through early fall, roughly May to October, offers the most comfortable weather for walking the promenade and taking the ferry across the harbor. Summer brings warm temperatures, festivals, and long daylight hours, but weekends draw heavy crowds and full parking lots, so weekday mornings are easier for RVs. September and October are excellent shoulder months with cooler air, clearer skyline views, and fewer visitors. Winter visits are possible for hardy travelers, though wind off the harbor is sharp and ferry schedules are reduced.
Cold and windy on the waterfront; ferry service runs on a reduced winter schedule.
Snow and ice possible on park paths.
Variable spring weather; rain common.
Trees leaf out; pleasant for walking the promenade.
Excellent for sightseeing.
Warm and humid; festivals begin.
Peak season; parking lots fill early on weekends.
Hot and humid; afternoon thunderstorms possible.
Clear skies and cooler air; one of the best months to visit.
Crisp days, fewer crowds.
Brisk waterfront winds.
Cold and often raw; some park amenities reduced for the season.
The park is the New Jersey departure point for ferries to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Tickets are needed to board the ferry, and Statue City Cruises is the authorized ferry concession for the park. Tickets should be booked in advance, especially for pedestal or crown access. nps.gov/stli/
A roughly two-mile paved waterfront walkway runs along the harbor with continuous views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Lower Manhattan skyline. The flat, wide path is suitable for walking, jogging, and cycling. Benches and shaded picnic areas line the route.
The historic 1889 rail terminal once processed millions of immigrants who continued inland after arriving at Ellis Island. The restored building houses interpretive exhibits and serves as the ferry boarding hall. It is a short walk from the main parking area.
A New Jersey state memorial dedicated to the 749 New Jersey residents lost on September 11, 2001. Two stainless steel walls frame the former site of the World Trade Center across the harbor. The memorial sits along the Liberty Walkway and is open to the public daily.
A bronze sculpture by Nathan Rapoport commemorates the liberation of concentration camp prisoners by American soldiers in World War II. It stands in a quiet plaza along the central park lawn. Interpretive signs explain the monument's history.
A large hands-on science museum sits at the western edge of Liberty State Park with one of the largest IMAX domes in the United States. The center features rotating exhibits on engineering, biology, and space exploration. It has its own bus and oversize vehicle parking area.
Liberty State Park has expansive lawns, designated picnic groves, and open shoreline ideal for relaxing between sightseeing stops. Tables and grills are available on a first-come basis. The Flag Plaza near the CRRNJ Terminal is a popular gathering point.
Wide paved roads and the waterfront promenade make the park one of the best places in the New York metro area for casual cycling and inline skating. Loops can be combined for rides of several miles entirely inside the park. Cyclists should yield to pedestrians on the Liberty Walkway.

It’s a brand new vehicle in excellent conditions. The Mercedes van drives smoothly and easily and all the interior amenities and accessories are of very high quality (best pots and pans we ever had in an RV). It performs at its best when plugged in overnight as the fridge is spacious and energy hungry. We had a super time and would definitely rent again from Howard who is always available available to help and very responsive. Highly recommended

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

Spent 2 weeks in this beauty traveling the states, and I will say it was perfect. Amazing amenities in a vehicle that is not too intimidating to drive, and a host that is communicative, understanding, and accommodating. It was such an unforgettable journey that formed lasting memories which everyone should experience.

Liberty State Park, NJ, United States
Liberty State Park sits just off Exit 14B of the New Jersey Turnpike, making it about a 15 to 25 minute drive from Midtown Manhattan via the Holland Tunnel and roughly 90 minutes from Philadelphia on I-95. RV drivers should avoid the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, which prohibit propane-equipped RVs and most large motorhomes; instead use the Goethals Bridge or the Bayonne Bridge to approach from the south, or the George Washington Bridge from the north. The park has large surface lots that can accommodate RVs, but height-restricted parking decks elsewhere in Jersey City should be avoided. Newark Liberty International Airport is about 12 miles away and is the most convenient option for fly-and-rent travelers.
