Late May through mid-October is the prime window, when the campground is open and the trails are clear of snow and mud. September and early October bring some of the best fall foliage in Connecticut, cool sleeping temperatures, and thinner crowds than the summer peak. July and August are warm and humid, with weekends filling quickly, so midweek arrivals are easier for larger RVs. Spring shoulder season can be muddy and buggy but is excellent for brook flow and wildflowers.

Cobble Mountain is the park's signature summit hike, reaching an open rocky overlook with sweeping views west into New York. The blue-blazed trail climbs steeply through hemlock and hardwood forest before emerging on exposed ledges. Park at the main trailhead lot, which can fit small to mid-size RVs on quieter days.
The Macedonia Ridge Trail is a roughly 6.7-mile loop that links Cobble Mountain with the park's quieter eastern ridges. It offers multiple viewpoints, stream crossings, and varied forest types, and is considered one of the best day hikes in northwest Connecticut. Allow most of a day and carry water.
Macedonia Brook is a cold, stocked trout stream that runs the length of the park. Anglers can fish from the bank along the park road, with small pullouts near key runs. A valid Connecticut fishing license is required.
Shaded picnic areas sit directly alongside Macedonia Brook, with tables, grills, and easy access from the main park road. This is a good midday stop for RV travelers exploring the Litchfield Hills who do not plan to camp overnight.
The narrow road through Macedonia Brook State Park makes a classic New England fall drive, with maples, birches, and oaks reflecting over the stream. It pairs well with a stop in the village of Kent for shops and bakeries. Drivers of large rigs should check road conditions before entering.
The Appalachian Trail runs along the Housatonic River just east of the park near Kent, offering flat riverside walking very different from the ridgeline hikes inside Macedonia Brook. RVers can drive to trailheads off Route 341 or River Road and sample short, scenic sections. It is an easy half-day add-on to a park stay.
The park's mix of stream, forest, and ridge habitat supports deer, black bear, wild turkey, pileated woodpeckers, and spring migrant songbirds. Quiet early mornings along the brook and on the ridge trails are best. Bring binoculars and store food securely at the campsite.
Marry was great. She responded quickly with any questions we had and the Rv was well kept and well serviced. We will rent with her again.

Far and away a better experience than we could have hoped for. Sassy was the PERFECT RV for us. Very clean, adequate space (2 adults and a dog), well stocked with useful items and just all around fantastic. We traveled from CT to West Virginia, the trip just wouldn't have been the same without such comfortable accommodations. The couple was informative and incredibly flexible and accommodating with our unique schedule. We truly cannot say enough good things about our experience. We're already beginning to plan our next trip with Sassy. Thanks so much!!

Macedonia Brook State Park, CT, United States
The park sits about 4 miles northwest of the village of Kent, Connecticut, via Route 341 and Macedonia Brook Road. Danbury is roughly 40 minutes south, Hartford about 90 minutes east, and New York City about 2 hours southwest on largely rural, winding two-lane roads. RV drivers should note that Macedonia Brook Road and the internal park roads are narrow, unpaved in sections, and include tight turns and low-clearance tree canopy, so larger rigs should scout access and avoid shortcuts through the Litchfield Hills' steep side roads. The nearest major fly-and-rent airports are Hartford (BDL) and Westchester County (HPN), each roughly 1.5 to 2 hours away.
