Milford State Park, KS, United States
Milford State Park is about 6 miles northwest of Junction City, Kansas, with most RV traffic exiting Interstate 70 onto US-77 north and then west on KS-57. Manhattan is roughly 25 miles east, Topeka is about 70 miles east (a 1 hour 15 minute drive), and the Kansas City area is around 130 miles east via I-70. The terrain is rolling Flint Hills prairie with no tunnels or steep mountain passes, but RVers should watch for crosswinds on I-70 and tight turns on local park roads. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK), with Kansas City International (MCI) as a larger alternative.
Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the warmest weather and full access to swim beaches, boat ramps, and lakeside campsites. Summer brings peak crowds around major holiday weekends, so reservations are recommended. Shoulder months in April and October are quieter, with mild days ideal for hiking and fishing, though nights can be cold and some facilities operate on reduced hours. Winter visits are possible for day use, but expect bare-bones services and the chance of ice or wind-driven cold on the open prairie.

Milford Lake is the largest reservoir in Kansas and the centerpiece of the park, with multiple boat ramps and protected coves. Anglers target walleye, white bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, and crappie from boats and shoreline access points.
A designated swim beach offers a sandy lakeside spot for hot prairie summer days. Picnic shelters and restrooms are nearby, with parking that accommodates tow vehicles.
The Milford Nature Center, located adjacent to the state park near the dam, features wildlife exhibits, live native animals, and interpretive trails. The neighboring state fish hatchery is one of the larger facilities in Kansas and offers a self-guided experience.
Multi-use trails in and around the park wind through Flint Hills prairie, hardwood draws, and lakefront overlooks. Routes are generally moderate, with rolling terrain and seasonal wildflowers.
Milford Lake and the surrounding wildlife area are a known stopover for bald eagles, pelicans, and migratory waterfowl. Birders find the best viewing in late fall and winter near the dam outlet and along quieter shoreline arms.
The park and the adjacent wildlife area include multi-use single-track and shared-use routes popular with mountain bikers and horseback riders. Trail length varies by loop, with options for shorter family rides and longer connector routes.
Numerous lakeside picnic areas and developed campground loops give RVers direct water views. Many utility sites are spaced for larger rigs with paved or gravel pads near boat ramps.
RVezy made this entire process painless. From locating a suitable camper to dropping off after trip, the entire experience was simple. Will definitely use them in the future.
