Spring (March through May) and fall (October through November) are the best times to visit Mission Tejas State Park, when temperatures are mild, humidity is lower, and the surrounding pine forest is comfortable for hiking and camping. Summer brings hot, humid days with frequent thunderstorms and heavy mosquito activity, making early mornings the best time for trail use. Winter is generally mild and a quiet shoulder season, with occasional cold fronts and rain but no regular closures. Holiday weekends across all seasons fill campsites quickly, so RV travelers should reserve well in advance.

The centerpiece of the park is a commemorative log reconstruction of the first Spanish mission in Texas. The site was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps as a tribute to the original mission established by Spanish padres among the Hasinai Caddo. The structure sits a short walk from the main parking area with level paths suitable for most visitors. nps.gov/places/mission-tejas-state-park.htm
Tour a restored frontier-era log home preserved within the park. The Rice Family Log Cabin was built by Anglo-American settlers and later relocated into the park as a historical exhibit. Interpretive signage tells the story of early Anglo settlement along El Camino Real. nps.gov/places/mission-tejas-state-park.htm
Walk a preserved remnant of the historic colonial road inside the park. This 1.5-mile-long trail segment crosses an area with remarkable visual integrity, courses parallel to State Highway 21 and at times crosses the highway, and runs adjacent to one of the Caddo Indian sites within the state park. nps.gov/elte/learn/photosmultimedia/mission-tejas-state-park.htm
Mission Tejas has a compact but scenic trail network winding through tall pines and mixed hardwoods. The park is home to eight and a half miles of trails through tall pines, past historic structures, and following a remnant of the El Camino Real route. Trails connect the campground, mission site, and historic cabin. nps.gov/places/mission-tejas-state-park.htm
A small stocked pond inside the park offers shoreline fishing for bass, catfish, and sunfish. The park offers fishing, picnicking, campsites, and group facilities. No fishing license is required to fish from shore inside a Texas state park. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/mission-tejas
Shaded picnic areas with tables and grills are scattered near the day-use parking and pond. The setting under tall loblolly and shortleaf pines stays cooler than open Texas prairie even in summer. RV-friendly parking is available near most picnic spots. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/mission-tejas
The park is bordered by the Davy Crockett National Forest, offering additional hiking, paddling, and wildlife watching. The Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area sits a short drive away with a swimming beach and additional trails. RV travelers can use Mission Tejas as a base camp with hookups while exploring the surrounding national forest. fs.usda.gov/r08/texas/recreation/davy-crockett-national-forest
We had a gr was t time at the lake, we enjoyed the trailer and Zane’s prompt delivery to our site. The trailer was very clean and in great working order. Driver delivered and set up trailer early and we had no issues. We will definitely use Zane again.

Mission Tejas State Park, TX, United States
The park sits on State Highway 21 about 22 miles northeast of Crockett, roughly 45 minutes by RV, and about 2 hours and 30 minutes north of Houston via US-59 and TX-21. From Dallas the drive is approximately 3 hours via I-45 south to Centerville and then east on TX-7 and TX-21. The park entrance road is steep and curving, so larger Class A motorhomes and long fifth wheels should take the turn slowly; there are no major mountain passes, tunnels, or weight-restricted bridges on the main approach routes. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is George Bush Intercontinental in Houston (IAH).
