Late June through August offers the most reliable weather, warm days, and full campground services. September into early October is the prime window for fall foliage along the Molly Stark Byway and from the Mount Olga fire tower, though weekends book up quickly. Late May and early June are quieter shoulder periods, with cool nights and the chance of lingering mud on trails. The park closes for the off-season after mid-October, so winter RV travel is not supported on site.

The Mount Olga Trail is a moderate 1.7-mile loop that climbs from the campground to the 2,415-foot summit of Mount Olga. At the top, a restored steel fire tower offers sweeping views across southern Vermont, the Berkshires, and into New Hampshire. Trailhead parking is within the park for registered campers, with additional roadside parking on Route 9.
Route 9, known as the Molly Stark Scenic Byway, runs directly past the park between Bennington and Brattleboro. The road is bordered on both sides by the Green Mountain National Forest and offers numerous pull-offs for photos, especially during fall foliage. Keep an eye out for signs to Woodford State Park and Somerset Reservoir along the way. fs.usda.gov/r09/gmfl/recreation/molly-stark-scenic-byway
The park maintains a small picnic area with tables and a playground near the campground entrance. It is a quiet stop for a midday break while driving Route 9. Flush restrooms are available seasonally near the contact station.
Hogback Mountain is a well-known roadside overlook a few miles west of the park on Route 9. It offers a wide southern panorama sometimes marketed as the 100 Mile View. There is a paved lot large enough for most RVs and a small conservation area with short walking paths.
Lake Whitingham, also called Harriman Reservoir, sits just southwest of the park and is Vermont's largest lake entirely within the state. It offers boat launches, fishing access, and shoreline trails. The village of Wilmington provides restaurants, groceries, and fuel stops for RVers.
Mount Snow Resort is about 10 miles north of the park on Route 100 and operates a summer scenic chairlift, lift-served mountain biking, and hiking trails. Ample paved parking at the base area accommodates RVs. The drive up Route 100 is itself a scenic highlight of the Deerfield Valley.
The park is surrounded by the Green Mountain National Forest, which offers additional hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Nearby Somerset Reservoir and Grout Pond provide quiet paddling and backcountry trails. Forest roads such as Somerset Road branch off Route 9 within a short drive of the park. fs.usda.gov/r09/gmfl

I recently had the pleasure of staying in Lien's camper van for a music festival in Vermont, and I can't emphasize enough how perfectly it met my needs. My four essential requirements for the stay— a clean environment, a comfortable bed, a bathroom, and quality coffee—were not only satisfied but exceeded in every aspect, transforming my experience into one of sheer comfort and enjoyment. In fact, I enjoyed my stay so much that I’ve already booked for next year's festivities! Lien proved to be an exceptional host, embodying warmth and hospitality throughout my stay. She communicated effectively and was always available to address any questions I had, ensuring I felt welcome and well-informed. Her clear instructions prior to my arrival made the check-in process seamless, and she generously took the time to provide a thorough tutorial on the van's systems, which truly enhanced my experience. Furthermore, Lien went above and beyond by supplying plenty of pillows, blankets, and fresh spring water, which added thoughtful touches to my stay. Her attention to detail made all the difference, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the festival atmosphere without any worries. I wholeheartedly recommend her camper van as the perfect 'home away from home' for solo travelers or couples alike. If you're looking for a convenient, comfortable, and fun place to stay, look no further! You won't be disappointed!

Molly Stark State Park, VT, United States
The park sits directly on Route 9 about 3 miles east of Wilmington, roughly 20 miles (35 minutes) from Brattleboro and 21 miles (45 minutes) from Bennington. Route 9 is a winding, hilly two-lane road with several steep grades and tight curves as it crosses Hogback Mountain, so drivers of larger Class A or towable rigs should plan for slow speeds and use low gears on descents. There are no tunnels or weight-restricted bridges on the approach, but winter conditions can close or narrow shoulders. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Albany International Airport (ALB) in New York, about 75 miles west, with Bradley International (BDL) in Connecticut a similar distance south.
