Late April through October is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with warm days, open campground amenities, and full access to the nature center and aquatic facility in summer. September and October bring cooler nights, lower humidity, fewer bugs, and strong fall color in the hardwood forest along the White River. Spring shoulder season can be wet, so travelers should expect muddy trails and occasional high river levels. Winter camping is possible in limited form but many seasonal services close, so RVers should confirm availability before arriving.

The Great Mound is the largest and best-preserved earthwork in the park, a circular ceremonial enclosure built by the Adena culture. A short, nearly level paved path leads from the main parking area to the mound, making it accessible for most visitors.
Trail 1 is a short interpretive loop that links several of the park's ten earthworks with signage explaining their significance. It is an easy walk on mostly level ground and a good introduction to the site.
Trail 5 descends from the upland forest to bluff overlooks above the White River before looping back through hardwood ravines. Expect steps, some steeper grades, and scenic river views best seen in spring and fall.
The park nature center offers exhibits on the Adena and Hopewell cultures, regional ecology, and the White River. Rangers lead seasonal interpretive programs that are well suited to families camping on-site.
The White River runs along the park's southern boundary and offers calm flatwater paddling for canoes and kayaks. Local outfitters in the Anderson area provide shuttle service, making it a practical day trip from the campground.
A seasonal family aquatic center with a pool and water play features operates during summer months. It provides a welcome break from hiking on hot central Indiana afternoons.
The restored Bronnenberg House is a 19th-century pioneer home preserved within the park near the main trail network. Interpretive signage outlines the property's role in the early protection of the mounds.
The van was great and exactly as advertised. Perfect vehicle for camping for 2 people and 2 dogs and it drives like a regular car. Chris was an awesome host; extremely helpful and made the renting process a breeze!

Best van ever and the hosts are so awesome. We rented the van to go to a music festival and not only did it have everything we need plus more, it was so cute and they did a great job adding special touches. The hosts were so accommodating, and we appreciate how cool they were/are :) thank you again!!!! Best van ever can’t say enough about how great our experience was.

Mounds State Park, IN, United States
The park is just off State Road 232 on the east side of Anderson, reached via I-69 exit for Anderson, about a 45 minute drive from downtown Indianapolis. From Fort Wayne it is roughly 90 miles south on I-69, and from Cincinnati about 2.5 hours via I-74 and I-69. The final approach uses standard two-lane state and city roads with no tunnels, steep mountain grades, or low clearances, which makes it straightforward for most RV classes. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Indianapolis International Airport (IND), about an hour southwest.
