Late June through August is the prime window, with warm Lake Michigan water temperatures, reliably open beaches, and full campground operations. Early September offers lighter crowds, comfortable days, and easier last-minute reservations while most services remain available. May and October are solid shoulder options for cool-weather RV travel, though lake winds can be brisk and some facilities run on limited schedules. Winter visits center on the sports complex, but camping loops are reduced and weather can complicate RV access.

The park's main draw is more than two miles of soft sand beach along Lake Michigan. Day-use parking lots accommodate trailers and larger vehicles, and the beach is walkable from the Lake Michigan Campground.
This park facility houses one of only a handful of public luge tracks in North America, plus lighted cross-country ski trails and an ice-skating trail in winter. Large paved parking accommodates tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
A paved walkway along the channel between Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan leads to the historic pierhead lighthouse. The route is flat and accessible, with trailhead parking near the Channel Campground.
This wooded loop winds through dune forest and past small inland lakes, offering a shaded alternative to the beach. Trailhead parking is suitable for trucks and smaller RVs.
Snug Harbor provides a protected boat launch on Muskegon Lake with kayak and paddleboard access. The parking area handles tow rigs and includes accessible fishing piers.
A short, steep dune staircase climbs to overlook views of Lake Michigan and the surrounding forested dunes. Access is from the Lake Michigan Campground day-use area.
Memorial and Scenic Drives trace the park's shoreline with pull-offs above Lake Michigan. The corridor is a popular sunset route and includes turnouts large enough for most Class C and travel trailer setups.
We’ve not rented a RV in the past. The entire experience of renting the Yankee Traveler with Stu far exceeded our expectations. The RV was clean, spacious, and included everything we needed to make the most of our weekend camping trip. Stu was very prompt and kind in his responses via the RVezy app and the delivery process was quick. We’ll definitely rent with Stu and the Yankee Traveler next go around.

We had a great experience using the Yankee Traveler! Lisa and Stu were the greatest hosts, had it all set up for us when we got there, we could just move in and enjoy. The trailer was very well equipped, and we enjoyed being out in the woods. We highly recommend renting from them, and will use it again.

Trevor was a great host, we had a few questions and he was available for us instantly, when we first got set up we realized we had no hot water and our air conditioner froze up and he came out immediately and had both things fixed and running, for us to enjoy our holiday weekend!

Muskegon State Park, MI, United States
The park sits on the Lake Michigan shore just northwest of Muskegon, about a 45 minute drive from Grand Rapids via US-31 and roughly three hours from Chicago via I-94 and I-196. RV drivers typically exit US-31 at M-120 or Sherman Boulevard and follow Memorial Drive or Scenic Drive into the park, avoiding tight downtown streets. Final approaches are paved two-lane roads with dune terrain and a few curves, so watch for low tree branches in older loops and sandy shoulders near the beach. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, with Muskegon County Airport as a smaller regional option.
