Spring, from March through May, offers warm Gulf water, comfortable temperatures in the 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, and strong migratory bird activity along the Central Flyway. Fall, from late September through November, is another prime window with fewer crowds, lower humidity, and reduced risk of afternoon thunderstorms. Summer brings hot, humid beach weather and peak crowds, so reservations are essential. Winter is mild and popular with Texas snowbirds, though occasional cold fronts can bring wind and rain off the Gulf.

The park fronts about five miles of open Gulf of Mexico beach with gentle surf and soft sand. Paved day-use parking and beach access points put RV renters within a short walk of the water.
Mustang Island is a classic Texas surf-fishing destination for redfish, speckled trout, whiting, and the occasional shark. Anglers can drive onto the primitive beach camping area and fish directly from their site with a valid Texas saltwater license.
This roughly 20-mile marked paddling trail runs along the back side of the island through Corpus Christi Bay, Shamrock Cove, and seagrass flats. Launches at Fish Pass and along the bay side offer parking suitable for vehicles with kayak trailers.
The park sits on one of North America's most active migration corridors and hosts herons, egrets, terns, and migrating songbirds. Spring and fall migrations produce the richest variety along the dunes and bayside flats.
The undeveloped shoreline collects shells, sand dollars, and occasional sea beans, especially after strong onshore winds. Early morning walks before the day-use crowd arrives are the most productive.
Steady southeast sea breezes and shallow bay waters make the Mustang Island area a noted spot for wind sports. Bird Island Basin and bayside launches are within a short drive of the campground.
The town of Port Aransas lies just north of the park and offers jetty fishing, dolphin-watching tours, seafood restaurants, and the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center. Parking for tow vehicles is easier than bringing a full-size RV into town.
Lindsey and Nikki were fantastic hosts. They took care of delivery and retrieval, made sure the trailer was fully stocked, communicated proactively about all the details of using it, and were always readily available to help with any questions or issues that arose. Thanks to them, we had a wonderful family vacation with our small children on an RV campground by the beach!

Our first time renting an RV! We knew nothing about an RV. Lindsey and Nikki were great hosts. They took care of delivery and retrieval, the trailer had all the small necessities one needed. They kept in communication with us, watching the weather answering any questions we had. We had a wonderful getaway.

Mustang Island State Park, TX, United States
From Corpus Christi, drivers reach the park in about 40 minutes via the JFK Memorial Causeway and Park Road 22 to State Highway 361 north, a flat paved route with no significant grades. From Houston, plan on roughly a 3.5 to 4 hour drive of about 210 miles down US 59 and I-37. RV travelers approaching from the north can take the free Port Aransas ferry across the Corpus Christi Ship Channel, which carries rigs but can have long summer waits, so the southern causeway route is usually easier for larger motorhomes and fifth wheels. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Corpus Christi International Airport, about 30 miles west of the park.
