Late May through early October offers the most reliable weather for RV travel, with warm days, open campground loops, and active interpretive programs. September and early October bring cooler nights, fewer mosquitoes, and excellent fall color along the bluffs as hardwoods turn. July and August are peak season and book up on weekends, so reservations are recommended. April and November are quieter shoulder months but can be cold and wet, with limited services.

Scenic overlooks along the bluff edge offer expansive views of the Mississippi River valley several hundred feet below. Short paved and gravel paths from the picnic area and campground reach the best viewpoints, making them accessible for most visitors.
A network of hiking trails loops through oak woodlands, restored prairie, and along the bluff line. Routes connect the campground, picnic areas, and overlooks and provide chances to spot deer, wild turkey, and migrating raptors.
Stonefield is a state historic site located across Highway 133 from the park, preserving Nelson Dewey's farm and a recreated 1900s village. RV travelers can park in the day-use lot and walk between the park and historic site.
The park contains a group of Native American effigy mounds set among the upland forest. Interpretive signs describe the mound builders and the cultural significance of the site.
The bluffs sit directly above the Mississippi Flyway, one of North America's major migration corridors. Spring and fall bring waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors, with bald eagles often visible year round.
Open picnic areas with tables and shelters sit near the bluff edge, offering shaded lunch spots with sweeping river views. Several day-use lots accommodate larger vehicles.
The seasonal Cassville Car Ferry crosses the Mississippi to Iowa just south of the park and is a popular short side trip. Note that it has vehicle size and weight limits, so most RVs should leave the rig at camp and drive a tow vehicle or walk on.
Paige was great to work with! She was very responsive and helpful. Camper was exactly as pictured.

We had a great experience renting from Paige and her husband. Everything went very smoothly! Their camper is beautiful and clean. Paige had a basket full of goodies for us upon arrival. Paige was very quick to respond to any questions on the app. Set up was quick and easy! I would definitely rent from them again!!

Nelson Dewey State Park, WI, United States
The park is just north of Cassville on State Highway 133, about 75 miles southwest of Madison (roughly 1 hour 45 minutes) and about 110 miles north of Dubuque, Iowa via the Great River Road. RV drivers should plan for narrow, winding two-lane highways through the Driftless Area, with steep grades and curves on the final approach to the bluff-top campground. There are no major tunnels or weight-restricted bridges on standard routes, but the Cassville Car Ferry across the Mississippi has size and weight limits and should not be used by larger motorhomes. The nearest commercial airport is Dubuque Regional Airport, with larger fly-and-rent options at Madison (MSN) and Cedar Rapids (CID).
