Late May through early October is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with warm days, open campgrounds, and full access to nearby bike trails. September and early October bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and strong fall color in the hardwood forest. July and August are peak season, so reservations are recommended on weekends and around local festivals in New Glarus. Spring shoulder weeks can be wet and muddy on trails.

The Chattermark Trail is a short interpretive loop through the park's mature hardwoods with signs explaining Swiss settler history and local ecology. Its gentle grade makes it a good leg-stretcher for RV travelers after a drive.
The Sugar River State Trail is a crushed-limestone rail-trail running about 24 miles between New Glarus and Brodhead, with its northern trailhead in New Glarus a few minutes from the park. Cyclists of all levels can pedal past farmland, river bottoms, and restored depots.
Havenridge Nature Trail is the park's longer hiking loop, winding through woodlands, prairie remnants, and old farmstead sites. Expect rolling terrain typical of the Driftless Area and chances to spot deer, wild turkey, and songbirds.
The day-use picnic area offers shaded tables, grills, and open lawn near the park entrance. It is a convenient base for a midday stop while touring the New Glarus area by RV.
The village of New Glarus, known as America's Little Switzerland, sits minutes from the park and features Swiss-themed architecture, cheese shops, and the Swiss Historical Village museum. It is an easy walk or short drive from the campground.
New Glarus Brewing Company operates a hilltop brewery just outside town, offering self-guided tours, a tasting room, and scenic views over the surrounding countryside. The large visitor lot can typically accommodate smaller RVs.
The park's mix of mature forest, edge habitat, and nearby farmland supports deer, wild turkey, pileated woodpeckers, and migrating warblers. Early morning walks on the park's trails are the best time to spot wildlife.
Ross was great to work with & the experience exceeded our expectations! He was very accommodating with pick up- we live out of state and ran into unexpected delays on our way to pick up. The rental was very clean, came stocked with anything we needed, and was a very pleasant experience. We will be repeat renters!

New Glarus Woods State Park, WI, United States
The park sits just off State Highway 69 on the south edge of New Glarus, about 30 minutes (25 miles) south of Madison and roughly 2 hours (about 115 miles) northwest of Chicago. Dane County Regional Airport in Madison is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers. Roads in are paved state and county highways with no tunnels or major mountain grades, but the approach includes rolling Driftless Area hills, so drivers of longer rigs should watch for short, steep grades and tight turns on the park access road. Large RVs should use Highway 69 rather than narrow rural shortcuts.
