Late May through September is the most reliable window for RV travel, with warm days, long evenings, and full access to the boat ramp and campground. June and September offer cooler temperatures and thinner crowds, which is ideal for fishing and quiet shoreline sites. Winter brings cold temperatures, possible snow, and reduced services, though ice fishing draws a small following. Spring winds can be strong across the open reservoir, so secure awnings and slide toppers before leaving.

Otter Creek Reservoir is one of Utah's most productive rainbow trout fisheries and is open to fishing year-round. The cold, clear water also supports strong populations for shore and boat anglers. RVers can park at the state park day-use lots or reserve a shoreline campsite. blm.gov/visit/otter-creek-reservoir-recreation-area
The reservoir's open water is well suited for motorboats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. A developed boat ramp at the state park provides trailer-friendly access. Winds tend to pick up in the afternoon, so plan launches for mornings. stateparks.utah.gov/parks/otter-creek/
The Paiute ATV Trail is a 275-plus-mile loop system accessible from the Otter Creek area. Riders can run day loops through Fishlake National Forest and surrounding BLM lands straight from camp. RV and trailer staging is available near the reservoir. blm.gov/visit/otter-creek-reservoir-recreation-area
The reservoir and surrounding sagebrush flats host waterfowl, raptors, deer, antelope, and elk. Early morning and evening are the best viewing times along the shoreline and adjacent BLM roads. Bring binoculars and a spotting scope. blm.gov/visit/otter-creek-reservoir-recreation-area
Bryce Canyon National Park is about a 1.5-hour drive south via SR-22 and US-89, making Otter Creek a quieter base camp for Bryce visits. Leave the RV at camp and take the tow vehicle for easier parking inside the park. Plan for big elevation gains and cooler temperatures at the rim. nps.gov/brca/index.htm
Fishlake National Forest surrounds the area and offers scenic byways through aspen groves and high mountain meadows. The forest spans about 1.5 million acres with fishing, hiking, and camping opportunities. Most main forest roads are passable by tow vehicles, though narrow spurs are best left to smaller rigs. fs.usda.gov/r04/fishlake/recreation
The state park maintains day-use picnic areas along the reservoir with tables and restrooms. Swimming is allowed at your own risk from sandy shore zones. Water stays cold into early summer, so plan accordingly. stateparks.utah.gov/parks/otter-creek/
Randy is a stud and has a great setup. I’d rent from him again. 🤙

Otter Creek State Park, UT, United States
The park is reached via US-89 and SR-22 and sits about 40 miles south of Richfield, roughly a one-hour drive. From Salt Lake City plan on about 3.5 to 4 hours south via I-15 and US-89, and from Las Vegas expect around 4.5 hours. Roads into the park are paved and RV-friendly, but the approach climbs to roughly 6,400 feet so check coolant, brakes, and tire pressure before the drive. Cedar City Regional Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport are the closest options for fly-and-rent travelers.
