Late June through August is the prime window for RV travel, with warm Thompson-region days ideal for swimming, paddling and trail use. July and August are peak season and the campground fills up quickly, so early arrival or advance reservations are recommended. Shoulder months of May, early June and September bring cooler nights, thinner crowds and still-accessible Pinantan Road. Winter visits are limited to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing with no winter facilities provided.

Gibraltar Rock is the park's signature hike, climbing through mature Douglas fir forest to a 900 metre summit overlooking Paul Lake. The trail gains elevation gradually with rest stops, though the last 300 metres are somewhat steep. The summit delivers spectacular views of the lake and Harper Mountain plus a bird's-eye look at ospreys, swallows and the rare white-throated swift. bcparks.ca/paul-lake-park/
The day-use area offers a 400 metre sandy swimming beach on the north shore of Paul Lake with marker buoys indicating the swim zone. Warm interior summer temperatures make the lake comfortable for swimming from July into early September. Changing rooms, an open air shower and washrooms are provided, but there are no lifeguards on duty in BC Parks. bcparks.ca/paul-lake-park/
Paul Lake has a cartop boat launch at the day-use area suited to canoes, kayaks and small car-topped boats. The sheltered lake is a relaxed setting for paddling and fishing from shore or boat. RVers can day-park near the launch before returning to their campsite. bcparks.ca/paul-lake-park/
Paul Lake is stocked with blackwater and pennask strains of rainbow trout, making it a popular fishery within easy reach of Kamloops. Anglers can cast from shore, the beach area or a small boat launched at the day-use area. A valid British Columbia freshwater fishing licence is required. bcparks.ca/paul-lake-park/
The park has over 7 km of hiking trails winding through Douglas fir, pine and aspen forest. Loops connect the campground, lakeshore and Gibraltar Rock, offering options from short walks to half-day outings. E-bikes are restricted to park roads and are not permitted on trails. bcparks.ca/paul-lake-park/
Paul Lake is a popular area for bird watching, with osprey, swallows and white-throated swifts frequently seen. The park also protects habitat for falcons and bald eagles. The lakeshore, forest edges and Gibraltar Rock summit are all productive viewing spots. bcparks.ca/paul-lake-park/
The park's day-use area features an adventure playground alongside the beach and picnic sites. It is a convenient stop for families travelling with children in an RV. Large day-use parking accommodates trailers and motorhomes during lakeshore visits. bcparks.ca/paul-lake-park/

This is our 3rd year in a row, renting from Steve now, and as per usual, the experience was fantastic! If you are aren't sure, I can tell you that you don't need to worry, Steve is definitely your guy. We will rent from him as long as he is renting his trailer out on this platform. See you again next year, Steve! ☺️

Paul Lake Provincial Park, BC, Canada
From Highway 5, about 5 km north of Kamloops, take the paved Pinantan Road east for 19 km to the campground on the north side of Paul Lake. Kamloops sits roughly 25 km (30 minutes) west, Vancouver is about 360 km (4.5 hours) southwest via the Coquihalla, and Calgary is roughly 610 km (7 hours) east via Highway 1. Pinantan Road is paved but narrow and winding with some grades, so large RVs should drive at reduced speed and watch for oncoming traffic. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Kamloops Airport (YKA).
