Spring, from March through May, is the top window for RV travel, with mild temperatures, wildflowers across the Hill Country, and a flowing river for swimming and tubing. Fall, from late September through November, offers similarly pleasant days, cooler nights, and lighter crowds than the peak summer season. Summer brings hot temperatures often above 95 F and busy weekends, while winter stays mild and is ideal for hiking with low humidity and occasional cold fronts.

The park's signature viewpoint looks down on the stair-step limestone falls of the Pedernales River. A short paved and gravel path from a dedicated trailhead parking area leads to fenced overlooks above the falls. Wading or swimming in the falls area itself is prohibited for safety.
A designated swimming and tubing area lies downstream of the falls where the river widens into calmer pools. Visitors reach it via a short walk from the river day-use parking lot, which has room for trucks and tow vehicles. Check river levels at the ranger station, as the area closes when flows are high.
Wolf Mountain Trail is a roughly 6 mile loop through juniper-oak woodlands with creek crossings and Hill Country views. It leaves from a large trailhead parking lot suitable for trucks and larger tow vehicles. Bring plenty of water as shade is limited in summer.
This short interpretive loop of about three-quarters of a mile descends to a seasonal side-stream waterfall. Signs explain Hill Country geology and plant life along the way. The trailhead shares parking with Wolf Mountain Trail.
The park maintains an enclosed wildlife viewing blind with feeders and a water feature that draws painted buntings, golden-cheeked warblers in season, and many other Hill Country species. A short accessible walkway leads from a small parking area. It is one of the most productive birding stops in central Texas.
The park has a dedicated multi-use trail system of roughly 14 miles open to mountain bikes and horses. Trails wind over rolling limestone terrain with moderate climbs. An equestrian-friendly trailhead provides trailer parking.
Anglers can fish the river for largemouth and Guadalupe bass, catfish, and sunfish. No state fishing license is required within Texas state park boundaries. River access points have nearby day-use parking suitable for tow vehicles.
This was our first excursion with a camper van and we had a really nice experience with this rental. We had no issues with the rental during our entire trip. Anthony was great in explaining the details and functions of his vehicle. Pick up and drop off were very easy.

Absolutely enjoyed our first experience in a Class B RV. Host were fantastic! They were kindly accommodating for the changes we made to our reservation. The Thor is small but well laid out. The host provided everything needed (towels, wash clothes, plates, bowls, fry pan, toiletries, etc etc). Basically, load your clothes and groceries and hit the road. We traveled just over 2500 miles. The van handled well and was an ease to maneuver. Cruise control was great. We were able to pull into a regular parking spot and nap, eat, or fix a cup of coffee. We boondocked the entire trip. The generator ran well when needed and was quiet. The onboard batteries stayed charged and kept the refrigerator nice and cold. The cassette toilet was easy to deal with. The bed set up was simple and surprisingly comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed using this Class B and look forward to our next adventure. Highly recommend this host!

Pedernales Falls State Park, TX, United States
The park entrance is on FM 2766, about 9 miles east of Johnson City and roughly a 45 minute drive from downtown Austin via US-290 and RR 3232. San Antonio is approximately 75 miles south, about 90 minutes by RV. Roads into the park are paved two-lane Hill Country highways with rolling grades, narrow shoulders, and a few low-water crossings that can flood after heavy rain, so RV drivers should watch weather and avoid night travel on unfamiliar back roads. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips.
