Late spring through early fall, roughly May through October, is the best window for RV travel when the campground is open and trails are clear. September and early October bring spectacular fall color across the bluffs along with cooler temperatures and fewer bugs. Midsummer weekends see the heaviest campground demand, so shoulder-season visits in May or late September offer a quieter experience. Winter visits are limited to day use as the campground closes seasonally.

The main overlook is a short, accessible walk from the parking area to a bluff-top platform 500 feet above the Mississippi River. The view takes in the confluence of the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers and the Wisconsin shoreline beyond. RV parking is available at the main lot.
This boardwalk trail leads from the main overlook area to Bridal Veil Falls, a slender cascade tumbling over a sandstone ledge in a shaded ravine. The flat, mostly boardwalk route is one of the most popular short hikes in the park.
Point Ann is a secondary overlook reached by a forested trail that passes through oak-hickory woodlands. It offers river views with fewer visitors than the main overlook.
A network of trails leads past Native American burial and effigy mounds preserved within the park. Interpretive signs explain the history of the Woodland-era peoples who shaped the landscape.
Sand Cave is a sandstone alcove tucked into a shaded ravine reached by a footpath with stairs. The route descends from the main trail system and returns by the same path.
Located about 15 miles north near Harpers Ferry, this National Park Service site protects more than 200 prehistoric mounds. A visitor center and multiple trails make it a worthwhile day trip from the park campground.
The historic river town of McGregor sits at the base of the bluffs, with antique shops, restaurants, and boat tours along the Great River Road. It is a short drive from the park and accommodates RV day-trippers in designated parking areas.

We had a great experience renting from Paige and her husband. Everything went very smoothly! Their camper is beautiful and clean. Paige had a basket full of goodies for us upon arrival. Paige was very quick to respond to any questions on the app. Set up was quick and easy! I would definitely rent from them again!!

Pikes Peak State Park, IA, United States
The park sits about 3 miles southeast of McGregor, Iowa, off State Highway 340, reached via U.S. Highway 18 and U.S. Highway 52. Dubuque is about 75 miles south (a 90-minute drive), Madison, Wisconsin is roughly 110 miles east, and Minneapolis is about 180 miles north. RV drivers should note that the final approach climbs a steep, winding bluff road with tight curves, so large rigs should downshift and use caution. The nearest regional airport for fly-and-rent trips is Dubuque Regional Airport, with Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids and Dane County Regional in Madison as larger options.
