Spring and fall, roughly April through early June and September through October, are the most comfortable months for RV camping, with mild temperatures, lower humidity, and active wildlife. Summer is peak season thanks to the aquatic center and lake activities, but expect heat, humidity, and full campgrounds on weekends, so reservations are strongly recommended. Winter camping is possible in the main campground loops that remain open, with cool days, cold nights, and much lighter crowds on the trails.

Pocahontas State Park has an extensive network of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Trails range from flat lakeside paths to rolling singletrack loops through pine forest. Trailheads have RV-accessible parking near the campground and day-use areas.
The park's aquatic center features pools and waterslides and is a popular summer destination for families. It operates seasonally, typically Memorial Day through Labor Day. Large day-use parking lots accommodate vehicles of most sizes.
Swift Creek Lake and nearby Beaver Lake offer freshwater fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Rentals are available seasonally at the boathouse. A Virginia freshwater fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and older.
The on-site Civilian Conservation Corps Museum tells the story of the young men who built the park in the 1930s. Exhibits include tools, photographs, and artifacts from the original CCC camp. Parking near the visitor area is suitable for RVs and tow vehicles.
The park's outdoor amphitheater hosts concerts, films, and interpretive programs during the warmer months. Seasonal events draw visitors from across the Richmond region. Check the park's event calendar before your trip.
Fendley Station is the park's dedicated mountain biking hub with purpose-built singletrack loops rated from beginner to advanced. Riders can access flow trails, technical features, and longer cross-country routes. A large trailhead parking area handles trucks and RVs with bike racks.
Day-use areas near Swift Creek Lake offer picnic shelters, open lawns, and playgrounds. Shelters can be reserved in advance for group gatherings. Nearby restrooms and paved parking make this a convenient stop between activities.

It was such a great experience renting this camper. The host was wonderful and very communicative. All our needs were met by the host. The camper was also great. Clean & comfortable. My favorite thing is that the camper comes fully stocked with linens, plates, and pots/pans.
