Late spring through early fall, roughly May through September, is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with warm days ideal for paddling and swimming. Summer weekends and holidays fill quickly, so reservations are recommended well in advance. Shoulder seasons in April and October offer cooler weather, fall color, and quieter campgrounds, though overnight temperatures can drop below freezing. Winter brings snow-based recreation including cross-country skiing, but full campground services are limited.

Paddling the slow, dam-controlled stretch of the Huron River is the park's signature activity. Canoes, kayaks, and tubes can be launched at park access points, and rentals are available seasonally near the campground.
A network of multi-use trails winds through oak and pine forest, wetlands, and along the river. Routes range from short nature loops to longer connector paths, with trailhead parking suitable for RVs at the main day-use area.
Designated mountain bike trails offer rolling singletrack through mixed hardwood forest. The terrain is moderate and well suited to intermediate riders.
The Huron River is stocked with trout each spring, drawing anglers to the catch-and-release waters within the park. A current Michigan fishing license is required.
A sandy swimming beach on Proud Lake provides a family-friendly spot to cool off in summer. Picnic tables, grills, and vault restrooms support a day of shoreline relaxation.
The park offers equestrian trails and staging areas for riders bringing their own horses. Equestrian camping facilities are available seasonally.
In winter, groomed and ungroomed trails turn the park into a popular cross-country skiing destination for the Detroit metro area. Conditions depend on seasonal snowfall.

The park sits near Milford, Michigan, off Wixom Road between I-96 and Commerce Road. From Detroit it is roughly 40 miles, about a 45 to 60 minute drive, and from Ann Arbor around 35 miles. RV drivers should watch for a few low-clearance railroad underpasses on rural approach roads and use GPS routing suitable for tall vehicles. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), about an hour to the southeast.
