Late June through August delivers the warmest ocean temperatures, lifeguarded swimming, and full campground operations, making it the peak window for beach-focused RV trips. May, early June, and September are strong shoulder-season picks with cooler nights, fewer crowds, and easier campsite availability. The campground is typically open from mid-April through the end of September, so early-spring and fall visitors should confirm dates before arrival. Summer weekends book up far in advance, so weekday stays are the easiest for last-minute trips.

Rocky Neck Beach is a half-mile crescent of sandy Long Island Sound shoreline that anchors the park. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer season, and changing rooms and concessions are located in the adjacent pavilion. Day-use parking is large enough to handle tow vehicles.
The Ellie Mitchell Pavilion is a stone-and-timber beach pavilion built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It houses concessions, restrooms, and rentable event space overlooking the beach.
Tony's Nose Trail is a short wooded loop leading to an overlook above the salt marsh and Long Island Sound. The route is under two miles and combines modest elevation with coastal views. Trailhead parking is within the main day-use area.
The Shipyard Trail traces the edge of Bride Brook estuary through mixed hardwoods and connects to the Baker's Cave rock outcrop. It is a flat, family-friendly walk with interpretive signage on the area's salt-marsh ecology.
The stone jetty at the east end of the beach is a popular spot for saltwater fishing targeting striped bass, bluefish, and scup. A valid Connecticut marine waters fishing registration is required for anglers 16 and older.
Bride Brook runs along the western edge of the park and is a well-known spot for blue crabbing during summer. Hand lines and traps can be used from the footbridge and marsh banks, with seasonal regulations posted on-site.
The Four Mile River Trail follows the quieter western side of the park through oak and pine forest out to marsh views. It offers a longer walking option away from the beach crowds and links with several shorter interior paths.
Awesome experience with the van! Scott was great at promptly answering questions when we had them and the van was just right to road trip and park. Easy to maneuver, great safety features, and convenient for general creature comforts. Really appreciated the experience and would absolutely rent again!

Our camper van rental experience was a pre retirement trial for my wife, our precious lil Yorkie & me. We are new to the van life and this was our first time driving & living out of a camper van. The trip exceeded our expectations on many levels from putting together a list of ideas & “to do’s” for our future custom camper van to the overall positive learning experience thanks to our incredibly insightful and gracious host. Scott was an exceptional host, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the operation of the van inside & out. During our trip, Scott would respond to our text questions promptly, which was very comforting to know he was there for us if needed.

Rocky Neck State Park, CT, United States
Rocky Neck State Park is located off Exit 72 of Interstate 95 in East Lyme, Connecticut, roughly a 45-minute drive from Hartford and about 2 hours 15 minutes from New York City or Boston. RV drivers approaching from the west on I-95 should note standard Connecticut bridge and parkway restrictions: the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways do not allow RVs or trailers, so stay on I-95 or I-91. There are no tunnels or steep mountain grades on the route, but summer shoreline traffic near New Haven and New London can be heavy. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Tweed New Haven (HVN), with Bradley International (BDL) near Hartford and T. F. Green (PVD) in Providence as larger alternatives.
