Best time to visit Rocky Neck State Park

Late June through August delivers the warmest ocean temperatures, lifeguarded swimming, and full campground operations, making it the peak window for beach-focused RV trips. May, early June, and September are strong shoulder-season picks with cooler nights, fewer crowds, and easier campsite availability. The campground is typically open from mid-April through the end of September, so early-spring and fall visitors should confirm dates before arrival. Summer weekends book up far in advance, so weekday stays are the easiest for last-minute trips.

Awesome experience with the van! Scott was great at promptly answering questions when we had them and the van was just right to road trip and park. Easy to maneuver, great safety features, and convenient for general creature comforts. Really appreciated the experience and would absolutely rent again!

Our camper van rental experience was a pre retirement trial for my wife, our precious lil Yorkie & me. We are new to the van life and this was our first time driving & living out of a camper van. The trip exceeded our expectations on many levels from putting together a list of ideas & “to do’s” for our future custom camper van to the overall positive learning experience thanks to our incredibly insightful and gracious host. Scott was an exceptional host, very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in explaining the operation of the van inside & out. During our trip, Scott would respond to our text questions promptly, which was very comforting to know he was there for us if needed.

How to get to Rocky Neck State Park

Rocky Neck State Park is located off Exit 72 of Interstate 95 in East Lyme, Connecticut, roughly a 45-minute drive from Hartford and about 2 hours 15 minutes from New York City or Boston. RV drivers approaching from the west on I-95 should note standard Connecticut bridge and parkway restrictions: the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways do not allow RVs or trailers, so stay on I-95 or I-91. There are no tunnels or steep mountain grades on the route, but summer shoreline traffic near New Haven and New London can be heavy. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Tweed New Haven (HVN), with Bradley International (BDL) near Hartford and T. F. Green (PVD) in Providence as larger alternatives.
