The Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail is a paved multi-use rail trail that passes directly through the park between Mankato and Faribault. Cyclists, walkers, and in-line skaters use it for flat, family-friendly rides through farmland, lakes, and small towns. A trailhead and parking area in the park make it easy for RVers to access without moving their rig. dnr.state.mn.us/state_trails/sakatah_singing_hills/index.html
Sakatah Lake is a shallow, natural widening of the Cannon River known for walleye, northern pike, crappie, bluegill, and bass. The park has a public boat ramp with trailer parking suitable for tow vehicles. Shore fishing is possible from the fishing pier and along the lake frontage.
The park has several miles of hiking trails that loop through a remnant stand of the Big Woods hardwood forest. Spring wildflowers, songbirds, and fall color are trail highlights. Routes are mostly flat to gently rolling and suitable for most ability levels.
Calm, connected lakes along the Cannon River make for easy canoeing and kayaking close to the campground. Paddlers can follow quiet shoreline to watch for herons, egrets, and waterfowl. A boat ramp and carry-down access within the park simplify launching.
Sakatah Lake State Park is a strong spot for songbirds, woodpeckers, deer, and wetland species thanks to its mix of hardwood forest and lake edge. Early morning and evening are the best times to observe activity along the trails. Binoculars are recommended for the forest canopy and lake marshes.
The park has a designated swimming area and picnic grounds along the lake, popular with families on warm summer days. Picnic tables, grills, and shaded lawn make it an easy midday stop. Day-use parking accommodates standard tow vehicles and smaller RVs.
In winter the park grooms cross-country ski trails and allows snowshoeing on designated routes through the Big Woods. Ice fishing is popular on Sakatah Lake when conditions allow. RV camping is generally not available in deep winter, so most visits are day-use.

Sakatah Lake State Park, MN, United States
The park is on U.S. Highway 60 just west of Waterville, Minnesota. Mankato is roughly 25 miles west, about a 35 minute drive, and Faribault sits about 15 miles east, roughly 20 minutes away. From the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro the drive is about 70 miles south, typically 75 to 90 minutes via I-35 and Highway 60, making Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips. The route uses standard interstate and state highways with no tunnels or mountain passes, though RV drivers should watch for narrow shoulders on rural segments of Highway 60 and follow posted bridge weight limits.
