The best time to visit Salmon Lake State Park is from late May through September when the park is fully open and weather is most favorable for outdoor activities. July and August offer the warmest conditions with daytime highs in the upper 70s, making them ideal for swimming and water sports. June and September provide excellent alternatives with milder temperatures and fewer crowds. Note that the park is closed for camping from October through April, though day-use access continues through November weather permitting.

Salmon Lake State Park is accessible via Montana Highway 83, approximately 5 miles south of Seeley Lake and 32 miles northeast of Missoula. From Missoula, allow roughly 45 minutes to an hour of driving through mountain terrain. The park roads are moderately steep in places but navigable for standard RV rigs. Missoula International Airport, approximately 45 to 60 minutes from the park, is the nearest fly-and-rent option.
