This was our first time renting a camp trailer and had a great experience. The trailer was delivered to our requested campground and set up for us. All we had to do was bring our clothes and food. Ashley was quick to respond when we asked about how to turn on the heater and tv (we didn’t know the generator needed to be running:). The trailer was perfect for a fun family time! Looking forward to renting Ashley’s trailer again sometime!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Montana

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Montana, and are there ways to save during peak season?

Great news, Montana RV rental rates are some of the best for exploring wide-open spaces. On average, RV rentals in Montana range from $100 to $250 per night, depending on the size, season, and amenities. Summer (June-August) is peak season, especially near Glacier National Park, but you can snag a cheap RV rental in Montana by booking shoulder season dates (April-May or September-October) or opting for a travel trailer instead of a motorhome. Early booking and midweek rentals also help you save. Consider picking up your RV in Missoula or Billings for the most options. Montana’s adventure starts with smart planning!

What do I need to rent an RV in Montana?

Renting an RV in Montana is refreshingly easy: you just need to be 25 or older with a valid driver’s license, no special endorsement required for most RVs! Locals and international visitors can both rent; international travelers should bring an International Driving Permit as well. RVezy confirms your ID automatically, so you’re ready to drive the famous Big Sky roads with confidence. If it’s your first time, hosts provide walk-throughs and helpful driving tips. The open roads of a Montana RV trip are truly accessible to anyone with a standard license.

What protection do I get with my RV rental in Montana?

Every RV rental in Montana booked through RVezy includes a protection package, so you're covered for the unexpected! This package covers most accidental damage to the RV and gives you 24/7 roadside assistance anywhere in Montana, from Yellowstone to Flathead Lake. It’s not insurance, but it brings serious peace of mind, letting you enjoy your Montana adventure without worry. You choose the level of coverage that’s right for you before you hit the (often scenic) road. Focus on hiking Glacier National Park, not potential hiccups.

What if my plans change? Is canceling my Montana RV rental easy?

You can book with clear expectations. RVezy gives you a 24-hour full-refund window after the host accepts your booking and your payment is made. After that, refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel; canceling more than 30 days before your trip minimizes what you forfeit. If your host cancels your booking, you receive a full refund or RVezy credits with no penalty. All cancellations are handled on the RVezy platform.

Where can I park my RV or campervan overnight in Montana, and what are the best local campgrounds?

RV camping in Montana is all about choices: you can stay in stunning mountain campgrounds or full-service RV parks with amenities. Try West Glacier KOA for resort-style perks, Bozeman Hot Springs Campground for natural pools and proximity to trails, or Flathead Lake State Park (Wayfarers Unit) for lakeside views. Most Montana state parks offer electric and water hookups. For free overnight stops, larger Walmarts (like in Missoula or Billings) often allow RV parking. Always check local signage and book early for national park sites during summer.

When is the best time to visit Montana for an RV trip?

Montana RV trips shine from late May through early October, when days are warm (60-85°F) and nights are cool, perfect for campfires and hiking. July and August are peak months for national parks, so consider June or September for fewer crowds. Winter (December-March) is adventurous: expect snow, frozen lakes, and day temps from 20-40°F, great for cozying up in a heated RV and skiing at Big Sky or Whitefish! Spring brings wildflowers and quieter trails. Every season offers a new way to experience Montana.

Montana is perfect for your first RV rental, wide open highways, friendly hosts, and less city stress than most states. Each RVezy trip includes a personal walkthrough and orientation when you pick up or have your RV delivered, so you’re never left guessing. Can I cross state borders into Canada or other states with my Montana RV rental?

Dreaming of a cross-border adventure? Many Montana RV rentals allow travel into nearby states like Wyoming or Idaho, perfect for a road trip to Yellowstone or the Tetons. For Canada, some hosts permit travel to Alberta or British Columbia (since Montana shares a border), but be sure to message your host from the listing page before booking for cross-border approval. RVezy’s coverage does not extend to Mexico. Popular routes: Missoula to Banff (450 miles), or Billings to Yellowstone (130 miles). Your Montana RV adventure can span two countries, just plan ahead!

How much should I budget for fuel on a Montana RV rental?

Montana’s vast landscapes mean you’ll have time on the road, so budget smart. Most motorhome rentals in Montana average 7-12 MPG, while campervan rentals are closer to 15-18 MPG. Gas prices in Montana usually run $0.20–$0.30 below the national average. Plan for around $80-120 to fill up a Class C RV. For a scenic loop from Missoula to Glacier and Flathead Lake (about 400 miles), expect $100-150 in gas for a typical motorhome. Pro tip: Use GasBuddy to find the cheapest pumps along your route.

How far in advance should I reserve a campground in Montana?

To get the best campgrounds near Montana’s top sights (like Glacier or Yellowstone), book as early as possible, reservations open about 6 months ahead for national parks and state parks. Many campgrounds use recreation.gov or the Montana State Parks reservation system. In July and August, the best sites may book up minutes after reservations open. Flexibility helps, try weekdays or less-known parks like Missouri Headwaters or Makoshika. Local tip: Watch for last-minute cancellations the week before your trip!

What should I know about driving an RV in Montana?

Driving an RV in Montana is straightforward, wide roads, low traffic, and epic views. The highways are typically well maintained, but spring can bring potholes and ice patches, especially in mountain passes near Butte and Kalispell. Watch for wildlife (deer, elk, bison) at dawn and dusk. Chains are sometimes required in winter, and some routes close from November to April. Always check Montana’s travel info site for real-time updates and consider delivery if you’re not ready for mountain curves.

What amenities can I expect at Montana campgrounds for RVs?

Montana’s campgrounds range from basic to resort-style. Most Montana state park campgrounds offer electric and water hookups; many private parks add full sewer hookups, WiFi, laundry, and family amenities. Look for dump stations at parks like Flathead Lake or Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park. If dry camping in the national forests, bring water and check for forest service vault toilets. Tip: Always fill your tank and empty your waste at your campground before heading to your next adventure!

Montana RV rentals offer comfy beds, full kitchens, bathrooms, seatbelts, AC, heating, and often a generator, look for details on each listing.
