Spring, from March through May, is the most popular window, offering warm days, cool nights, and comfortable reservoir temperatures for RV travel. Fall, from late September through early November, is another strong choice with thinner crowds and pleasant hiking conditions. Summer brings intense desert heat with highs often above 100 F, so early-morning activities and shaded RV sites are key. Winters are mild and quieter, ideal for snowbirds who want to ride the dunes without summer crowds.

Sand Hollow Reservoir is the park's centerpiece for warm-water recreation, with two boat ramps and designated swim areas. RVers can launch motorboats, paddleboards, and kayaks, then explore slickrock coves along the shoreline.
The BLM Sand Mountain Open OHV Area borders the state park and provides miles of dune and slickrock trails for ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. The area offers technical trails and open riding opportunities with panoramic views of the Hurricane Cliffs and Pine Valley Mountains. blm.gov/visit/sand-mountain-open-highway-vehicle-area
Sandy beaches around the reservoir create family-friendly swim zones with easy access from day-use parking. Water temperatures warm enough for swimming from late spring through early fall.
The reservoir is stocked as a warm-water fishery, with largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish among the common catches. Shoreline access and boat fishing are both productive.
A relatively flat hiking route traces the western edge of the reservoir past slickrock outcrops and sandy coves. It is an easy option for RVers who want to stretch their legs without committing to a long backcountry trek.
Zion National Park is about a 30-minute drive east from Sand Hollow, making the state park a popular RV base for Zion visits. Travelers often day-trip into the canyon, then return to full-hookup sites by evening.
Dark skies east of St. George make Sand Hollow a solid spot for casual stargazing from camp. Open shorelines and higher pull-outs offer unobstructed views of the Milky Way in summer.
Loved our experience with Sandy from start to finish. He communicated very well, including letting us know about the need to reserve a campsite ahead of time. The camper was very well stocked with kitchen items. The beds were soft and well prepared. They met us when we arrived to set up the RV and explain everything. The weather was very cold and so the water froze one morning. Sandy came right over within minutes and helped us get it going again. Very nice people and very honest. There were extra things we had ordered that we didn’t need so he offered to takeoff those charges. We would absolutely come back and use them again. We were a family with small children and they even agreed that it felt like home. Thank you for a great experience!

Sand Hollow State Park, UT, United States
The park is reached via UT State Route 7 (Southern Parkway) and Sand Hollow Road, about 15 miles east of St. George and roughly 5 miles from Hurricane. From Las Vegas it is about a 2-hour, 125-mile drive north on I-15; from Salt Lake City it is roughly 4.5 hours south. RV drivers should watch for steep grades on I-15 through the Virgin River Gorge in Arizona and summer heat that can stress tires and cooling systems. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is St. George Regional Airport (SGU), with Harry Reid International in Las Vegas as a larger alternative.
