July and August bring the warmest weather and busiest weekends, so reservations are recommended well in advance. Shoulder months of May, early June, and late September can deliver quieter campgrounds and excellent fishing, but RVers should be prepared for overnight freezes and the chance of late or early snow at this elevation.

Things to do at Scofield State Park

  • Fishing Scofield Reservoir
    RV parking available

Scofield Reservoir is one of Utah's premier high-elevation trout fisheries. Anglers target rainbow, cutthroat, and tiger trout from boats in summer and through the ice in winter. Both Madsen Bay and Mountain View have boat ramps with RV-friendly trailer parking.

  • Fish Creek National Recreation Trail Moderate
    RV parking available

Just west of the reservoir, Fish Creek Campground is the starting point for the 10-mile Fish Creek National Recreation Trail. The trail follows the creek through aspen and meadow country and is popular for hiking, fishing access, and horseback riding. There is ample parking, a kiosk, and a vault restroom at the trailhead. fs.usda.gov/r04/manti-lasal/recreation/fish-creek-campground-and-trailhead

  • Boating and Paddling
    RV parking available

Scofield Reservoir is open to motorized and non-motorized boating, including kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards. The lake provides room for water skiing on the open north end and quieter paddling along sheltered coves. Boat ramps are located at both Madsen Bay and Mountain View.

  • Ice Fishing

Scofield Reservoir is one of Utah's most productive winter ice fisheries. Anglers drive onto the ice in midwinter to target rainbow and tiger trout. Day-use access remains open when campgrounds close for the season.

  • Scenic Driving on the Energy Loop Easy
    RV parking available

The nearby Eccles Canyon and Huntington Canyon National Scenic Byways form Utah's Energy Loop, climbing through aspen forests and high meadows above 9,000 feet, with pullouts for photography. RVers should note that some side roads off the main byway are unpaved.

  • Wildlife Viewing Easy
    RV parking available

The high meadows around Scofield support elk, mule deer, moose, and abundant birdlife. Early morning and dusk along the reservoir shoreline and adjacent meadows offer the best viewing opportunities. Bring binoculars and stay in designated pullouts.

  • Snowmobiling and Winter Recreation Moderate

The surrounding Spanish Fork-Scofield Recreation Area is a favorite for snowmobiling and non-motorized snow sports, with groomed routes connecting to a wider trail network. The plateau holds deep snow into spring. RV travel in winter is limited; most visitors trailer sleds in for day trips.

  • Gooseberry Reservoir Side Trip Easy
    RV parking available

Gooseberry Campground sits in a beautiful mountain valley above Gooseberry Reservoir at an elevation of about 8,500 feet, with sagebrush meadows and aspen-covered hillsides. The reservoir offers good cutthroat and rainbow trout fishing as well as canoeing. fs.usda.gov/recarea/mantilasal/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=73496&actid=29
