Spring, roughly late March through May, is the top window for birding as neotropical migrants move through and wildflowers bloom. Fall, from September into early November, is another excellent shoulder season with cooler temperatures, fall color along the river, and hawk migration. Summer can be hot and humid with peak wildflower meadows, while winter is quiet and good for spotting waterfowl and sparrows on open fields.

Birdwatching is the signature activity, with the park designed and managed specifically to attract resident and migratory species. Restored grasslands, river edges, and hardwood stands support warblers, sparrows, raptors, and waterfowl depending on the season.
A network of grassy and gravel trails loops through pollinator meadows and fencerows, ideal for slow-paced nature walks. Trails are mostly level and stroller friendly.
A footbridge crosses a river channel to the main island, where a loop trail passes through woodlands and along the French Broad River. Expect excellent views of the water and frequent wildlife sightings.
Paddlers can launch small boats from the park's access point to float sections of the French Broad River. The calm stretches near the park are suitable for casual paddling and fishing from a kayak.
Shoreline anglers can cast for smallmouth bass, catfish, and sunfish along accessible sections of riverbank. A valid Tennessee fishing license is required.
Seasonal wildflowers, golden-hour light on the meadows, and working split-rail fences make the park a popular spot for landscape and wildlife photography. The open terrain offers long sight lines uncommon in wooded East Tennessee parks.
Picnic tables and open fields near the parking area provide a relaxed spot for a midday break. Shade is limited in the meadows, so a pop-up canopy is helpful in summer.
Samantha was extremely polite and excellent with her communication throughout our entire experience. The camper was exactly what we wanted. Overall experience was a 5 star plus!!

Seven Islands State Birding Park, TN, United States
The park is in Kodak, Tennessee, about 20 miles (30 minutes) east of Knoxville via Interstate 40 and about 25 miles (40 minutes) from Gatlinburg and the north entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The final approach follows narrow rural roads with a one-lane bridge at the park entrance, so larger motorhomes and trailers should stage at nearby campgrounds and visit in a tow vehicle when possible. There are no steep mountain passes or tunnels on the standard I-40 approach, but heavy traffic is common around Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) near Knoxville is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers.
