Late June through early September is the prime window, when the campground is fully open, daytime highs are warm, and the Meander River and trails are easy to enjoy. July and August bring the busiest weekends and warmest swimming-friendly weather, so midweek stays are calmer for RV travellers. Shoulder visits in early June and September offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and quieter sites, but campers should confirm operating dates before arrival as services taper at the end of the season.

The Meander River runs along the park and offers easy shoreline access for wading, skipping stones, and quiet riverside picnics. It is a short walk from the campground loop, making it convenient for RV families with kids.
Short forested footpaths wind through Acadian mixed woods of maple, birch, and softwoods. Routes are flat to gently rolling and well suited to a casual after-dinner stroll from your RV site.
The day-use area provides picnic tables, open grassy space, and washrooms within a short walk of the parking lot. It is a practical lunch stop for RVers travelling between Halifax and the Annapolis Valley.
Burntcoat Head, home to some of the world's highest recorded tides, is about a 45 minute drive north on the Bay of Fundy. RV travellers can park at the lot and walk down to the ocean floor at low tide.
The town of Windsor is roughly 20 minutes north and offers Fort Edward National Historic Site, local cafes, and grocery resupply. It is a useful base for RVers needing services close to the park.
The Wolfville area, about an hour west, is the heart of Nova Scotia wine country with farm stands, cideries, and tidal-river viewpoints. Many wineries offer larger lots that accommodate truck-and-trailer setups.
Rural Hants County has limited light pollution, so clear summer nights bring strong views of the Milky Way from open spots near the campground. Bring a camp chair and a red-light flashlight for the best experience.
Caroline and her husband were wonderful hosts! They took the time to get us up to speed on their van, and point out what we needed to know. The van came well equipped with stove, camping chairs and even an awning! We great enjoyed our trip in their van!

We were looking for the ability to be flexible on our trip and this met all the requirements! It was a fabulous way to travel! I would highly recommend using Caroline's camper van to anyone!

What an amazing experience. The RV is in good shape despite its age and had almost everything we needed. Make sure to bring your own camp stove, as there isn't one on board. Terry was really helpful when I had questions and was a great host. If I'm back on the east coast I'll definitely rent this one again.

Smileys Provincial Park, NS, Canada
From Halifax, the park is about a 60 to 75 minute drive west via Highway 101 and Route 14, roughly 80 to 90 km. From Windsor, it is a short drive of about 20 to 25 minutes south on Route 14 through Brooklyn. RV drivers should note that Route 14 is a rural two-lane highway with rolling grades, narrow shoulders, and farm-equipment traffic, so allow extra time and watch for low-clearance bridges and tight turns at intersections. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travellers is Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ), about 90 minutes east.
