Late June through August is the prime window, when Lake Manitoba water temperatures are warmest and the beach, swimming area, and boat launch are fully in season. July brings the busiest weekends, so reservations are strongly recommended. Shoulder visits in late May, early June, and September are quieter and cooler, and they can be excellent for birding during spring and fall migration, though swimming conditions are limited. Biting insects peak in early summer, so bring repellent for June visits.

The park's main draw is a long stretch of sandy beach on the south shore of Lake Manitoba with warm, shallow water ideal for swimming and wading. Paved parking near the day-use area accommodates RVs and tow vehicles. Bring shade, as tree cover along the sand is limited.
A boat launch inside the park provides access to Lake Manitoba for anglers targeting walleye, northern pike, and perch. The shallow south basin can develop choppy waves quickly in prairie winds, so check the forecast before heading out.
The wetlands and grasslands around the park are a noted stopover for migrating waterfowl, shorebirds, and pelicans. Spring and fall migrations offer the highest species counts, while summer brings nesting terns and marsh birds.
Flat park roads and shoreline paths make for easy walks and family bike rides between the campground, picnic areas, and beach. The level terrain is well suited to casual riders and young children.
Day-use areas include picnic tables, shelters, and a playground near the beach. Pull-through day-use parking accommodates trucks with trailers and Class C motorhomes for lunch stops during Interlake road trips.
The west-facing beach provides wide, unobstructed views across Lake Manitoba, making it a reliable spot for prairie sunsets. Late summer evenings are particularly popular with photographers.
Frank was fantastic to book with - responsive and helpful! The unit was a perfect fit and well appointed for our family meet-up trip where family came from other parts of Canada to meet up in Winnipeg and on one chilly night we had enough room to bring 6 adults inside for a game of Password out of the wet/cold weather. It was a perfect experience all around! Thank you, Frank! We highly recommend booking with Frank!

St. Ambroise Beach Provincial Park, MB, Canada
The park is about 80 to 90 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, roughly a 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minute drive via Highway 1 west and Provincial Road 430 north, or via Highway 6 and PR 227. Routes are flat prairie driving with no tunnels, mountain passes, or steep grades, which makes the approach straightforward for larger RVs, though strong crosswinds are common on open prairie stretches. Portage la Prairie sits roughly 40 kilometres south and is a useful fuel and grocery stop. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG).
