Late May through early October offers the most reliable weather for RV travel, with warm days ideal for paddling the St. Croix and Kettle rivers, swimming, and hiking. July and August bring peak campground demand, so reservations fill quickly on summer weekends. September is a strong shoulder season with cool nights, fall color, and thinner crowds. Winter brings snow and cold, and many services shift to limited day-use only.

Paddling the St. Croix and Kettle rivers is the signature activity at the park, with multiple landings inside park boundaries. The main landing for St. Croix State Park is located behind an island on the right side of the river, giving river campers and day paddlers direct access. Rentals and shuttles are available from nearby outfitters. nps.gov/sacn/planyourvisit/upload/St-Croix-PG-Final.pdf
St. Croix State Park offers more than 100 miles of trails for hiking, with access to river overlooks, pine forests, and historic CCC structures. The flat to gently rolling terrain suits most fitness levels. Trailhead parking at larger day-use lots can accommodate RVs. dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00273
Cyclists can ride dedicated paved bike trails as well as multi-use gravel routes that wind through the park's forested core. Routes connect campgrounds, picnic areas, and the St. Croix River overlook. Bring bikes on the RV to cover more ground than on foot. dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00273
The park's CCC-era fire tower offers a panoramic view over the surrounding forest canopy. The climb is steep and exposed, so it is not suitable for visitors with a fear of heights. The tower is part of the park's National Historic Landmark district. dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00273
A designated swimming area on the St. Croix River offers a sandy shoreline and shallow entry for families. Swimming is unsupervised, so visitors should use caution near currents. Day-use parking near the beach accommodates RVs and tow vehicles. dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00273
Anglers target smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and catfish along the park's river frontage. A Minnesota fishing license is required for anglers age 16 and over. Shore access points and boat landings are spread throughout the park. dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00273
The park preserves dozens of rustic buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the New Deal era. The structures form part of a National Historic Landmark district. Interpretive signs along park roads highlight the history of the Recreation Demonstration Area. nps.gov/articles/bringing-back-st-croix-recreation-demonstration-area.htm
A dedicated horse campground and miles of bridle trails make the park a destination for equestrians. Separate trails keep horse, hiking, and biking traffic apart. Trailer parking is available at the horse camp area. dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/park.html?id=spk00273

St. Croix State Park, MN, United States
The park lies in east-central Minnesota near Hinckley, roughly a 90-minute to two-hour drive from Minneapolis-St. Paul and about two and a half hours from Duluth. From Interstate 35, drivers exit at Hinckley and follow State Highway 48 east for about 15 miles to the park entrance. Roads into the park are paved and well suited to RVs, with no tunnels or steep mountain passes, though some interior campground loops are narrow and wooded, so drivers of larger rigs should confirm site length before booking. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is the closest major airport for fly-and-rent trips.
