Best time to visit Staunton River State Park

Late spring (April and May) and early fall (September and October) are generally the best windows for RV travel, with mild temperatures, lower humidity than midsummer, and active ranger programming. Summer (June through August) brings the warmest lake temperatures for swimming and boating but also higher humidity and peak reservation demand. Shoulder months in April and October offer fall color or spring blooms and easier campsite availability. Winter visits (December through February) are possible for day use, though some services and amenities operate on reduced schedules.

"Story" was a great RV and Joshua was an amazing host. This was our first time traveling in an RV and Joshua was very patient in answering all of our questions. He provided a very thorough orientation. The RV was fully equipped with everything we needed including kitchen/bath items, camping chairs, linens, etc. Everything was clean, well maintained, and exactly as described. We were able to boondock without any issues. Communication with Joshua was amazing and I highly recommend this rental.

How to get to Staunton River State Park

The park is reached from US Route 360 near South Boston, Virginia, with the entrance on Staunton Trail in Scottsburg. Driving times are approximately 1.5 hours south from Lynchburg, about 2 hours from Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and roughly 2.5 to 3 hours southwest of Richmond. Access roads are rural two-lane highways without major mountain passes or tunnels, but the final park road includes narrow curves and wooded grades, so large rigs should drive slowly and watch for low-hanging branches. The nearest commercial airport for fly-and-rent trips is Raleigh-Durham International (RDU), with Richmond International (RIC) another option.
