Stockton Lake is widely regarded as one of the top sailing lakes in the Midwest thanks to steady winds and clear, deep water. The park marina offers slips and ramp access, and sailing regattas are held throughout the summer season.
Stockton Lake is one of Missouri's premier walleye fisheries and also produces largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, crappie, and catfish. Anglers can launch from the park ramp or fish from shoreline points near the campground.
Short hiking trails wind through oak-hickory woodland near the campground and day-use areas, offering easy walks with occasional lake views. They make good leg-stretchers for RV campers and family-friendly options between lake activities.
The park's designated swim beach provides a sandy entry to Stockton Lake with a grassy lawn for picnicking. There are no lifeguards, so visitors swim at their own risk.
Beyond sailing, Stockton Lake is popular for powerboating, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. The marina offers fuel and basic supplies, and quieter coves can be explored by paddlecraft on calmer mornings.
Day-use areas with picnic tables and shelters are scattered along the peninsula with broad views of the lake. Shelters can be reserved for group gatherings during the main season.
The mix of open water, shoreline, and oak-hickory forest draws bald eagles in winter along with waterfowl, herons, and songbirds in warmer months. Early morning near the campground or marina is prime time.
