Late spring through early fall is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with May, June, September, and October offering mild days and cool nights ideal for hiking the granite dome loop. Summer brings warm, humid weather and the heaviest crowds, especially on weekends, so midweek arrivals are easier on the campground. October is peak leaf season in this part of the Blue Ridge, so reservations fill far in advance. Winter visits are possible but bring cold nights, occasional snow, and limited services.

The Stone Mountain Loop Trail is a roughly 4.5 mile circuit that climbs to the summit of the granite dome and passes Stone Mountain Falls. Hikers traverse open rock, forest, and a steep stone staircase beside the waterfall. Trailhead lots near the lower and upper park areas can accommodate larger vehicles, though spaces fill early on weekends.
Stone Mountain Falls is a 200 foot cascade flowing over the side of the granite dome. A wooden staircase climbs alongside the falls and is accessible as a shorter out and back from the upper trailhead. The viewpoint at the base offers an easier option for travelers who want the scenery without the full loop.
Stone Mountain is one of the premier traditional climbing destinations in the southeastern United States, with multi-pitch friction routes on its open granite face. Climbers must register at the park office before climbing. The lower parking area at the climber access point fits most tow vehicles but is tight for larger motorhomes.
The park contains miles of designated trout waters, including Delayed Harvest and Catch and Release sections on Big Sandy, East Prong Roaring River, and Bullhead Creek. A valid North Carolina fishing license is required, and special park regulations apply. Streamside pullouts and lots near the trout waters are suitable for trucks and smaller RVs.
The Hutchinson Homestead is a restored 19th century mountain farm at the base of the granite dome with a log cabin, barn, blacksmith shop, and meat house. Interpretive programs run seasonally and the site is a short, mostly flat walk from the lower trailhead lot. It is a good low effort stop for travelers with mixed ability groups.
These connector trails branch off the main loop and lead to additional granite outcrops with long views over the Piedmont. Adding them turns the standard loop into a longer, more strenuous day. Trailheads share the upper parking area used for the Stone Mountain Loop.
Widow's Creek Trail follows a small mountain stream through hardwood forest and is one of the quieter routes in the park. The path is mostly flat to moderate and offers a calmer alternative to the busy summit loop. Parking near the trailhead is suitable for smaller RVs and tow vehicles.
Beautiful spacious RV and excellent communication! I’d highly recommend to anyone. We got set up at Martinsville speedway on challenging terrain and the hosts were very accommodating. Book with confidence!

This was my first experience personally using an RV rental service and it could not have gone better. Zack was very helpful and accommodating with all the questions and concerns I had and I would not hesitate to rent from him again. Pick up and drop off was very flexible. The unit was very clean. Everything worked as it should.

Stone Mountain State Park, NC, United States
The park sits in northwestern North Carolina near Roaring Gap, about 40 minutes from Wilkesboro, roughly 1.5 hours northwest of Winston-Salem, and about 2.5 hours from Charlotte. Most RVers arrive via Interstate 77 to US 21, then follow John P. Frank Parkway into the park, a route without major tunnels but with steep, winding two-lane sections approaching the entrance. Drivers towing or piloting larger rigs should plan for grades and tight curves on the final approach roads and use low gears on descents. Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Piedmont Triad International in Greensboro are the nearest major airports for fly and rent trips.
