Late June through August is the peak window, with warm days, long daylight, and the campground and day-use areas fully open. Early September is an excellent shoulder season for RV travel, offering cooler nights, thinner crowds, and the start of fall colour in the Bonshaw Hills. May and early June can be cool and damp, with blackflies common in the woods. The park is closed in winter, so plan visits between late spring and early fall.

The park anchors a network of forested hiking and multi-use trails that wind through the Bonshaw Hills and along the West River valley. Routes range from short interpretive loops near the campground to longer connector trails into the surrounding Bonshaw Hills Provincial Park. Trailhead parking near the day-use area can accommodate smaller RVs and tow vehicles.
Elevated viewpoints along the park's bluffs offer classic PEI scenes of the West River, farmland, and mixed woodland. The short walks from the day-use area are suitable for most visitors and make an easy stop for RV travellers breaking up a drive on Route 1.
Shaded picnic areas with tables and washrooms sit among mature trees near the campground. The setting is popular with families and is well suited to a midday stop for RVers travelling between Charlottetown and the Confederation Bridge.
The park's mix of hardwood and softwood forest attracts warblers, woodpeckers, and other songbirds through spring and summer. Quiet early-morning walks on the interior trails offer the best chance to see and hear woodland species.
Gravel and multi-use trails in and around the park connect into broader Bonshaw Hills routes suitable for mountain and gravel bikes. Cyclists can ride directly from the campground without needing to drive to a separate trailhead.
The park's location on Route 1 makes it a practical base for day trips to the historic fishing village of Victoria-by-the-Sea and to downtown Charlottetown. Both are within roughly 20 to 30 minutes by vehicle, allowing RVers to leave the rig on site and explore by car or tow vehicle.
In September and early October the Bonshaw Hills around the park display strong red, orange, and yellow colour in maple and birch stands. Scenic drives on Route 1 and nearby secondary roads are a highlight of shoulder-season RV trips.
Great communication, nice, clean camper. Tyler was very friendly and accommodating, would definitely rent again!

Great experience! Host was great to communicate with!

This trip was amazing! It all started the day before we were supposed to pick up the RV, I was admitted into the hospital to have my appendix removed. Our hosts had a few days after we finished our original trip so they bumped it four days to accommodate our trip. We changed our plans but it worked out for the best. We traveled all around the south part of Nova Scotia, staying at The Ovens, Scallywags in Clare and then the last stop was at the campground at the Blomidon Lookoff. The RV was absolutely perfect from start to finish and for the size of it was very good on fuel. $465 for just over 1200km in a F-450, which is great fuel mileage. We normally go testing but tried this, our next testing camping trip will be horrible. Lol. We will feel spoiled. If you are considering this size of vehicle and this style of trip, this vehicle and host make the experience so much better! Book it while you can!

The rv was just the right size for our family of 5 to create a memorable trip. The rv is fully equipped, has plenty of power to climb and safely descend Cape Bretons Cabot trail and surroundings plus tons of little extras. We were actually impressed by the fuel consumption and handling of this rv. All being said, we agree with pretty much all the previous reviews. The host(s) were spot on and adaptive to our needs. Once again, no regrets going with RVezy.

Strathgartney Provincial Park, PE, Canada
The park sits just off the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1) in Bonshaw, roughly 20 kilometres west of Charlottetown, about a 20 to 25 minute drive. From the Confederation Bridge at Borden-Carleton, it is around 35 kilometres east, roughly 30 minutes by RV. Charlottetown Airport is the nearest airport for fly-and-rent travellers. RVers crossing the Confederation Bridge should note that the bridge has wind restrictions for high-profile vehicles and that the approach on Route 1 through the Bonshaw Hills includes rolling grades and some curves, so take them slowly in a loaded motorhome or with a trailer.
