Best time to visit Stretch Point State Park

Late June through early September is the best window, when Case Inlet waters are calmer, daytime highs are comfortable for swimming, and mainland RV campgrounds are in full operation. July and August bring the warmest, driest weather but also the most boat traffic on summer weekends. May, early June, and September work well as shoulder months with fewer boaters, though water temperatures stay cool. Late fall through early spring is wet, gray, and often windy in the inlet, which limits safe small-boat crossings to the point.

Things to do at Stretch Point State Park

  • Beachcombing and Picnicking Easy

The park's sandy and gravel beach is the main attraction and is ideal for a picnic lunch after a short boat ride. Visitors spread out along the shoreline to comb for shells and driftwood and watch passing boat traffic in Case Inlet.

  • Swimming at Stretch Point Easy

Stretch Point is known as one of the few sandy swimming beaches in southern Puget Sound. Summer is the only realistic swim season because water temperatures in Case Inlet stay cold the rest of the year.

  • Boat-In Day Use and Mooring Moderate

The park offers offshore mooring buoys for short-term daytime use by small boats and yachts. Boaters commonly anchor or tie up, swim ashore, and return to the mainland before dusk.

  • Kayaking and Paddleboarding Moderate

Paddlers launch from ramps in Grapeview or Allyn and cross short stretches of Case Inlet to reach the point. Watch tides, currents, and boat wakes, and plan crossings for calm-weather windows.

  • Scuba Diving Strenuous

The waters off Stretch Point are a popular dive site for divers based in south Puget Sound. Expect eelgrass, rocky areas, and a variety of Puget Sound marine life just offshore.

  • Fishing and Crabbing Moderate

Anglers fish the waters around the point for salmon, flounder, and other Puget Sound species, and drop pots for Dungeness crab in season. A current Washington fishing or shellfish license and an understanding of area regulations are required.

  • Wildlife and Bird Watching Easy

Case Inlet attracts harbor seals, bald eagles, great blue herons, and a wide range of seabirds that can be spotted from the beach or from a boat offshore. Binoculars and a quiet approach improve sightings.

We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are โ€œroughing itโ€. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!

Michaelโ€™s RV was excellent. His communication was prompt and clear. The RV is in good shape, drove easily, and was very clean. The snacks and coffee were appreciated and the airport pickup and drop off was incredibly smooth. Iโ€™d definitely rent from Michael again on my next trip to Seattle.

RV Rentals Stretch Point State Park

Stretch Point State Park, WA, United States

How to get to Stretch Point State Park

The park sits on Stretch Island in Case Inlet and is reachable only by watercraft, so RV renters park on the mainland and launch from a nearby ramp. The closest mainland launches are in Grapeview and Allyn, roughly a short drive from Shelton (about 20 to 30 minutes) and under two hours from Seattle or Tacoma via State Route 3 and SR 302. RVers should plan for narrow, winding two-lane rural roads around the Key Peninsula and Hood Canal area, watch for low tree canopy and tight turns near boat ramps, and avoid the short one-lane Stretch Island bridge with larger rigs. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, about 90 to 120 minutes away depending on traffic.
