RV Rentals Stuart Island Marine State Park

Stuart Island Marine State Park, WA, United States

How to get to Stuart Island Marine State Park

Stuart Island is accessible only by watercraft, so RV renters cannot drive to the park itself. The standard approach is to drive an RV to Anacortes, Washington (roughly 85 miles and 2 hours north of Seattle), take the Washington State Ferry to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, then launch a private boat, charter, or kayak for the short crossing to Stuart. The Roche Harbor Resort boat ramp on San Juan Island is the nearest launch site, and local launch fees apply. RV drivers should note ferry vehicle length and height fees, reserve vehicle space in advance during summer, and plan for Bellingham International or Seattle-Tacoma International as the nearest major airports for fly-and-rent trips.

Best time to visit Stuart Island Marine State Park

Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather in the San Juan Islands and the calmest conditions for small-boat and kayak crossings to Stuart Island. July and August bring peak boater traffic, so mooring buoys and dock space fill quickly on weekends. May, June, and September are strong shoulder months with fewer crowds, cooler nights, and better campsite availability for RV travelers staging on San Juan Island. Winter visits are possible but weather on Haro Strait can turn quickly, limiting safe crossings.
