Swartswood State Park, NJ, United States
Swartswood State Park lies in northwestern New Jersey off County Route 619, about 7 miles west of Newton and roughly a 60-mile, 90-minute drive from the George Washington Bridge in New York City. From the south, Philadelphia is approximately 100 miles, or about two hours by I-80 and local routes through Sussex County. RV drivers should note narrow rural roads on the final approach, posted weight limits on some county bridges, and rolling grades through the Kittatinny ridges; large rigs should avoid shortcut routes through Stokes State Forest. The closest major airports for fly-and-rent trips are Newark Liberty International, about 65 miles east, and Lehigh Valley International near Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Late May through early October is the prime window, when the swimming beach is staffed, the campground is fully operational, and lake water temperatures suit paddling and fishing. July and August bring the warmest weather and the largest crowds, so weekends fill quickly and reservations are recommended. Shoulder months of May, September, and October offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and strong fall color across the Kittatinny Valley, which is ideal for RVers seeking quieter sites. Winter visits focus on day use, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing rather than camping.

The guarded swimming beach on Swartswood Lake is the centerpiece of summer activity at the park. Sandy shoreline, a roped swim area, picnic tables, and grills sit beside large day-use parking lots that accommodate tow vehicles.
Swartswood Lake supports motorboats, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards from a public boat launch on the south shore. The launch has trailer parking suitable for tow vehicles, and seasonal rentals are typically available near the day-use area.
Both lakes are stocked and managed by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife and produce largemouth and smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, walleye, panfish, and trout. Shore access, a fishing pier, and ice fishing in winter make this a year-round draw.
The Duck Pond Trail is a short, mostly level loop through wetlands and mixed hardwood forest near the park's interior. It is a good leg-stretcher from the campground and offers reliable birdwatching for waterfowl and songbirds.
The Spring Lake Trail is a moderate multi-use path that links the campground area with quieter sections of the park's woodlands. Expect rolling terrain, wooden boardwalks across wet spots, and seasonal wildflowers.
Keen's Grist Mill picnic area sits along the lake outlet and combines historic interpretive panels with shaded tables and grills. The pull-through parking suits day-use visitors arriving with a tow vehicle.
Swartswood is recognized as an Important Bird Area within Sussex County's network of conservation lands. The park sits among regional conservation lands including Kittatinny Valley State Park, Stokes State Forest, and High Point State Park, supporting waterfowl, raptors, and woodland songbirds across varied habitats.
When the campground closes for the season, day-use visitors can ice fish on Swartswood Lake or ski and snowshoe the unplowed trails. Conditions vary year to year, and visitors should check ice thickness and trail status with the park office before heading out.
Absolutely amazing renter. The RV had everything we needed and they were very accommodating with our extension.

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00
