Late June through early September offers the warmest weather, calmest ferry crossings, and full campground services. July and August are peak months for whale watching and puffin tours out of Grand Manan, so reservations are strongly recommended. Shoulder weeks in mid-June and early September bring fewer crowds, cooler nights, and excellent birding as migratory species pass through. The campground is closed in the off-season, so fall, winter, and early spring trips are limited to day use only.

Anchorage Beach is a long cobble and sand beach inside the park with extreme Bay of Fundy tides that expose broad flats at low water. Visitors can beachcomb for sea glass, watch shorebirds, and wade in tidepools. The day-use parking area accommodates larger vehicles.
Long Pond is a sheltered freshwater pond on the park's north side popular for canoeing, kayaking, and spotting waterfowl. The surrounding marsh is one of the best birding spots on Grand Manan, with herons, osprey, and migratory songbirds.
The park has several short loops through spruce and fir forest, bog boardwalks, and shoreline viewpoints. Trails are generally flat and suitable for most fitness levels, with interpretive signage on local ecology.
Southwest Head Lighthouse sits on dramatic cliffs a short drive from the park. The clifftop viewpoints offer sweeping Bay of Fundy panoramas and frequent whale sightings in summer. Parking is available near the lighthouse.
The historic herring smoking sheds at nearby Seal Cove are a designated National Historic Site. The waterfront is walkable and photogenic at low tide. Street parking suits smaller rigs; larger RVs may prefer the village lot.
Hole-in-the-Wall is a natural rock arch on Grand Manan's northeast cliffs, reached by a short coastal trail from a private park near North Head. Views of the Bay of Fundy and passing whales are a highlight. The approach road is narrow, so check conditions before driving a large motorhome.
Several operators run whale-watching and puffin tours from North Head and Seal Cove in summer. Trips frequently see humpback, finback, and minke whales along with seabirds on Machias Seal Island. Tour operator lots accommodate vehicles while campers remain at the park.

The Anchorage Provincial Park, NB, Canada
The park sits near Seal Cove on the south end of Grand Manan Island, reached by a Coastal Transport car ferry from Blacks Harbour, about a 90-minute crossing. From the ferry landing at North Head, it is roughly 25 km (about 30 minutes) south on Route 776 to the park entrance. Drivers coming from Saint John should plan about 1.5 hours to Blacks Harbour, and from Bangor, Maine about 3 hours to the ferry terminal; the nearest major airport is Saint John (YSJ). RV travellers should reserve ferry space well in advance because large vehicles are charged by length, deck space is limited, and Route 776 on the island is narrow with some steep grades near the coast.
