Late June through early September offers the warmest, driest weather and the most reliable camping season on Nova Scotia's South Shore. July and August bring long daylight hours and ocean temperatures at their warmest, but they are also the busiest weeks, so advance reservations are recommended. Early June and September are quieter shoulder periods with cooler nights, fewer biting insects, and good conditions for hiking and photography. Spring fog and strong coastal winds are common, and the park operates on a seasonal schedule that typically runs from late spring through early fall.

The historic waterfront of Shelburne sits just a short drive from the park and features restored Loyalist-era buildings and working wharves. RVers can park in town lots and walk Dock Street to see museums, shops, and harbour views.
Short walking trails lead through Acadian forest to viewpoints over Shelburne Harbour. The paths are generally flat and family-friendly, making them accessible for most campers.
Shelburne Harbour is a sheltered saltwater bay suitable for kayaks, canoes, and small boats launched from nearby access points. Paddlers should check tides, wind, and marine forecasts before heading out.
Sand Hills Beach Provincial Park offers a long sandy Atlantic beach and is within driving distance to the southwest. It makes an easy day trip from The Islands for swimming and beachcombing. parks.novascotia.ca
The Shelburne County Museum and adjacent Dory Shop Museum interpret the town's Loyalist and shipbuilding history. Both sites are in walking distance of one another in downtown Shelburne.
Highway 3 through Shelburne County is part of Nova Scotia's Lighthouse Route scenic drive. RV travellers can link coves, lighthouses, and fishing villages such as Lockeport and Barrington on day excursions from the park.
The wooded shoreline and tidal flats attract seabirds, shorebirds, and bald eagles. Early morning and evening offer the best viewing from the park's shoreline and nearby coves.
This was our second year in a row renting this trailer and again, we had a great experience! Drop off and pick up were seamless, and Chris made sure we had everything we needed and more to ensure our stay was perfect! Great layout RV for a large family, clean and well equipped. We loved having the Blackstone for delicious meals!

Renting from Jim was fantastic! Communication was great and Jim was flexible on pick up and drop off which helped us out a lot! The RV is amazing, runs like a top, easy to drive, and has plenty of space and features. Would rent again 100%.

The RV was excellent and worked great. The GPS and backup camera were not working but it was no big deal for us. Jim was excellent and very helpful with questions on the phone.

The Islands Provincial Park, NS, Canada
The park is reached from Exit 26 or Exit 25 off Highway 103 near the town of Shelburne, about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive (roughly 215 km) southwest of Halifax. Yarmouth is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to the west (about 100 km), making the park a practical stopover for travellers using the Yarmouth ferry from Bar Harbor, Maine. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ). Highway 103 is a mostly flat coastal route with no major mountain passes or tunnels, but RV drivers should watch for narrow shoulders, frost heaves in spring, and fog near the coast.
