Late May through September is the most comfortable window for RV travel, with warm days, leafed-out hardwoods along the trails, and full campground services. June and early September offer a good balance of pleasant weather and lighter crowds compared to the July peak. Fall brings vivid color in the wooded ravines and cooler nights ideal for camping. Winters are cold and snowy with limited services, so most RVers plan visits between spring and fall.

The park's trail network winds through wooded ravines, oak hardwoods, and restored prairie along Brule Creek. Trails are shared with mountain bikers and equestrians, so RVers should yield where signed.
Multi-use single-track loops offer rolling terrain that is unusual for southeastern South Dakota. Riders enjoy short climbs, wooded switchbacks, and creek crossings.
Designated equestrian trails accommodate riders bringing their own stock. The wooded ravines provide shaded routes during summer heat.
The mix of woodland and prairie supports white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and a wide variety of songbirds. Early morning and evening are the best times along the trails and picnic areas.
Shaded picnic shelters, open-air tables, and a playground make the park a popular stop for families. Day-use areas are reachable with paved parking suitable for tow vehicles.
The modern campground offers electric sites, restrooms with showers, and a dump station for RV travelers. Sites are tucked among mature trees, providing welcome shade in summer.

Union Grove State Park, SD, United States
The park sits a short drive west of Interstate 29 in Union County, roughly 35 to 40 miles south of Sioux Falls and about 25 miles north of Sioux City, Iowa. From I-29, RV drivers exit near Beresford and follow paved county roads west to the park entrance, with no major mountain passes, tunnels, or steep grades to worry about. The closest fly-and-rent option is Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD), about an hour to the north, while Sioux Gateway Airport (SUX) in Sioux City offers another nearby option. Watch for tight turns and gravel sections on the final park access roads when driving a longer rig.
