Spring (March through May) and fall (September through October) are the best times to visit, with mild daytime temperatures ideal for walking interpretive areas and exploring nearby dinosaur track sites. Summer brings intense desert heat that frequently exceeds 95 F, making midday outdoor activity uncomfortable and hard on RV cooling systems. Winter is quieter and generally accessible, but overnight lows drop below freezing and occasional snow or mud can affect unpaved access roads. Spring and fall are also peak Moab seasons, so RV sites in the surrounding area fill quickly and advance reservations are recommended.
Cold nights and possible snow; unpaved roads may be muddy when wet
Chilly but generally accessible
Shoulder season with pleasant days

Cold, occasional snow, unpaved roads may be slick when wet
The park protects the Dalton Wells locality where Utahraptor fossils were discovered, giving visitors a chance to stand in the landscape where key Early Cretaceous dinosaur discoveries were made. Interpretive features are limited while the park is in development, so expect a quiet, self-guided experience. nps.gov/articles/-meetapaleontologist-jimkirkland.htm
This National Register of Historic Places site within the park commemorates a 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps camp that was later used as a Japanese American isolation center during World War II. Interpretive signage shares the layered history of the location. npgallery.nps.gov/AssetDetail/NRIS/94000366
Just off US 191 a short drive from the park, this BLM site features a boardwalk with over 200 Early Cretaceous dinosaur footprints from theropods, sauropods, ornithopods, ankylosaurs, birds, and crocodilians. A gravel parking area near the trailhead is accessible by most vehicles. blm.gov/visit/mill-canyon-dinosaur-trailhead-interpretive-site
About a mile past the tracksite, the Bone Trail is a self-guided, family-friendly path where fossilized dinosaur bones remain embedded in the rock alongside educational panels. The setting offers striking desert scenery and easy walking. blm.gov/visit/mill-canyon-dinosaur-trailhead-interpretive-site
Located in the Klondike Bluffs area north of Moab, this BLM trail leads to a Late Jurassic tracksite with more than 2,000 dinosaur footprints preserved in sandstone. The well-marked route is about three miles round trip with roughly 433 feet of elevation gain and a gravel trailhead parking lot. blm.gov/visit/dinosaur-stomping-grounds-trailhead
The entrance to Arches is only a short drive south on US 191, making the park a natural add-on for visitors staying in the Dalton Wells area. Expect timed-entry requirements during peak season and plan large-RV movements around midday traffic. nps.gov/arch/index.htm
The area surrounding Utahraptor State Park connects to extensive BLM mountain bike networks, including trails around Klondike Bluffs and the Bar M system, a designated National Recreation Trail. RV-friendly gravel trailheads along US 191 provide access. blm.gov/office/moab-field-office
What a wonderful experience our camping trip was! The owners were always available when we had questions and the camper was clean and ready to go when we showed up. Super nice people to rent from. I would highly recommend this camper if you're looking for a nice clean camper to rent in Moab.

Absolutely loved our weekend getaway with the little clipper trailer though RV Moab. They were accommodating, communicative, and provided everything we could have needed (without cluttering the little space) for an enjoyable weekend in Utah.

Utahraptor State Park, UT, United States
The park sits along US 191 about 13 miles north of Moab, a roughly 20 minute drive from town and about 30 minutes from Arches National Park's entrance. From Salt Lake City, plan on approximately 4 hours (about 230 miles) south via US 6 and I-70 to US 191; from Grand Junction, Colorado, it is about 1 hour 45 minutes (around 110 miles) west on I-70. There are no tunnels or steep mountain passes on the final approach, but the I-70 corridor crosses high desert with strong crosswinds, and summer heat can strain RV engines on long grades. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent travelers is Canyonlands Regional Airport (CNY) in Moab, with larger options at Grand Junction Regional (GJT) and Salt Lake City International (SLC).
