Late June through early September is the prime window, with warm days, reliably open lake access, and the full campground in service. July and August bring the warmest water and busiest sites, so booking ahead is essential for RV renters. Shoulder visits in late May, early June, and September offer cooler nights, fewer crowds, and better chances at walk-in sites, though some services may be limited. Winter visits are generally limited to day use, as facilities and water are shut off after the cold sets in.

The park has a small gravel beach and picnic area with views across Flathead Lake. It is a quick, easy stop for RV travelers looking to cool off on a hot afternoon.
Short forested trails wind through ponderosa pine and Douglas fir to rocky lake overlooks. The terrain is gentle and well suited to a leisurely stroll from camp.
Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, offering open water for kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating. The park provides shoreline access for launching small craft.
Flathead Lake is known for lake trout, lake whitefish, and yellow perch. Anglers can fish from shore at the park or launch small boats to reach deeper water.
Glacier National Park's west entrance at Apgar is roughly an hour and a half north via US 93 and US 2. The park makes a convenient base camp for a day of sightseeing along the southern and western edges of Glacier.
The small lakeside communities just north of the park offer marinas, restaurants, and grocery stops useful for RV travelers restocking mid-trip. Lakeside is about 6 miles north on US 93.
Blacktail Mountain sits on the west shore of Flathead Lake above Lakeside, Montana. In summer the access road leads to trailheads and panoramic valley views, and in winter it is a local ski area.
Great camper and host! Highly recommend.

West Shore State Park, MT, United States
The park is on U.S. Highway 93 about 20 miles south of Kalispell and roughly 6 miles south of Lakeside, a drive of about 25 to 30 minutes from Kalispell. From Missoula, expect a drive of around 2 hours 30 minutes north on US 93, which climbs over Evaro Hill and skirts the Mission Valley. RVers should note that US 93 along the west shore is narrow and curvy in places with limited passing, so slower speeds and early-day driving are recommended. The nearest airport for fly-and-rent trips is Glacier Park International (FCA) near Kalispell.
