Late May through early September is peak season, when the campground is fully open, the beach is staffed with lifeguards, and warm Atlantic-influenced weather supports swimming and paddling. June and September are excellent shoulder months for RV travel, offering cooler nights, thinner crowds, and easier campground reservations. October brings fall color in the hardwood forest, though beach services wind down and the campground closes by mid-month. Winter visits are limited to day use only, with the campground closed.

The park's sand and pebble beach stretches along the base of the bluffs on Long Island Sound. Access is by a paved path and stairway from the clifftop, and lifeguards staff the beach in peak summer.
Elevated picnic grounds at the top of the bluff offer panoramic views across Long Island Sound toward Connecticut. The area has tables, grills, and accessible parking suitable for larger vehicles.
The park maintains a network of wooded hiking trails winding through oak and hickory forest. Routes range from short loops near the campground to longer interior paths that connect to the bluff edge.
Designated mountain bike trails cross rolling glacial terrain in the park's interior. The loops are suitable for intermediate riders and start from the main day-use parking area.
In peak season the park runs organized activities including nature walks, playground events, and ballfield access. Programs are geared to families staying in the campground.
Surfcasting from the Wildwood beach is popular for striped bass, bluefish, and porgy in season. Anglers 16 and older need a New York marine fishing registration.
Wildwood is a convenient RV base for exploring the North Fork wine trail and farm stands along Route 25 in Riverhead, Jamesport, and Cutchogue. Most wineries offer oversized parking that accommodates tow vehicles.
We had a great time renting Margaret's trailer this past weekend. Communication was great and delivery/set up was very quick and easy. I would recommend anyone looking for a great experience to use her trailer!

Wildwood State Park, NY, United States
Wildwood sits on Hulse Landing Road in Wading River, reached via Route 25A or the Long Island Expressway (I-495) to Exit 68, then north on William Floyd Parkway and east on Route 25A, roughly 70 miles and 1.5 to 2 hours from Manhattan depending on traffic. From Riverhead the park is about 15 minutes east, and from Montauk about 1.5 hours west. RV drivers should note that many Long Island parkways (Northern State, Southern State, Meadowbrook, Wantagh) ban commercial vehicles and have low bridge clearances, so RVs must route via the Long Island Expressway and local roads. Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) in Ronkonkoma is the closest airport for fly-and-rent trips, about 30 miles away.
