Late spring through early fall, roughly May to September, offers the warmest weather and the most reliable boating and swimming conditions at the reservoir. July and August bring peak crowds and hot afternoons, so shoulder months like May, June, and September balance open facilities with lighter traffic. Winter visits focus on day use and bald eagle viewing along the cottonwood-lined shoreline, with most campground services reduced or closed. RVers should reserve sites well in advance for summer weekends and holidays.

Willard Bay is a popular freshwater boating destination on a 9,900-acre reservoir with ramps at both the North and South Marinas. Flat water and warm summer temperatures make it a favorite for waterskiing, wakeboarding, and paddling. RV-accessible parking and trailer spillover lots sit adjacent to the ramps. fs.usda.gov/detailfull/uwcnf/maps-pubs/?cid=stelprdb5097370
The reservoir supports a diverse warm-water fishery targeted by shore and boat anglers year-round. Fish species include gizzard shad, walleye, wipers, channel catfish, small-mouth and large-mouth bass, black crappie, yellow perch, log perch, emerald shiner, spottail shiner, green sunfish, bluegill, carp, and even the occasional brown and brook trout. Ice fishing is possible in some winters when conditions allow.
Willard Bay is one of northern Utah's best spots to see wintering bald eagles perched in shoreline trees. The cottonwoods are a favorite perch site for bald eagles in the winter, osprey in the summer, and a variety of other raptors at various times of the year. Pull-offs near the marinas give RVers easy roadside viewing without unhitching.
Sandy day-use beaches at both marinas offer calm freshwater swimming through the summer. Shaded picnic areas with tables and grills sit near the parking lots. Large gravel lots accommodate trucks with trailers.
The park's wetland edges attract a wide range of birds throughout the year. This Utah State Park provides a home for raptors, waterfowl, and a variety of fish. Spring and fall migrations bring the greatest variety of species.
Early mornings and evenings bring calmer water ideal for stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking along the sheltered shoreline. Small-craft launches are available at both marinas. Pack sun protection, as the open reservoir offers little shade on the water.
Both marinas feature developed picnic areas with tables, grills, and restroom facilities near the water. The cottonwood shade and open lawns make this a relaxed base for day-trippers. RV spillover parking is available on busy weekends.
Boots was a wonderful rental van and it was a perfect option for our trip. Jaden was very communicative and helpful with any/all questions we had. Would rent again if our travels bring us out this way!

Willard Bay State Park, UT, United States
Willard Bay State Park sits directly off Interstate 15 in northern Utah, roughly 15 miles north of Ogden and about an hour (55 miles) north of Salt Lake City. The North Marina is reached from I-15 Exit 360 and the South Marina from Exit 354, so RVs can stay on the interstate and avoid mountain passes, tunnels, and steep grades. Salt Lake City International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers, located approximately 60 miles south. Expect windy conditions on the open causeway and watch for high-profile vehicle advisories during storms.
