Late May through mid-October is the prime window for RV travel, when the campground is open and weather is reliably mild. July and August bring the warmest temperatures and busiest weekends, so reservations fill quickly for holiday periods. Shoulder seasons in late spring and early fall offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and vivid foliage, with New England color typically peaking in October. The campground is closed during the winter months, though the park itself remains open for day use.

Wompatuck features miles of paved roads and multi-use paths that wind through woodlands and past old military bunkers, making it one of the best flat cycling destinations on the South Shore. Riders can start right from the campground or the main day-use parking areas.
Mt. Blue Spring is a free-flowing natural spring inside the park where locals come to fill jugs with cold, untreated water. The short walk from the nearest parking pull-off is easy and family friendly.
Scattered throughout the forest are dozens of concrete bunkers left from the park's history as a U.S. Navy annex used during World War II and the Cold War. Trails and service roads make them easy to reach on foot or by bike.
The park has over 12 miles of trails ranging from wide gravel roads to narrow singletrack through oak and pine forest. Most routes are relatively flat and well shaded, with trailheads near the campground and visitor center.
Aaron River Reservoir borders the park and is open to non-motorized boating and freshwater fishing for species like largemouth bass and pickerel. A cartop boat launch is accessible by car from within the park.
World's End, a Trustees of Reservations peninsula with open meadows and harbor views, is about a 15 minute drive from the campground. Pair it with a walk along historic Hingham Harbor or a visit to nearby Nantasket Beach.
Wompatuck maintains a designated archery range open to permit holders, one of the few such facilities in a Massachusetts state park. It is a short walk or drive from the main campground loops.
We had a fabulous time in this great camper! AR was so easy to communicate with, answered our questions and was very flexible with our plans. We will definitely be planning something in the future with this great camper, my grandkids loved it. A great family experience!

She delivered it on time and had good communication during the process. The RV met all our needs. Although we didn’t use them, appreciated the additional games that were included.

Wompatuck State Park, MA, United States
Wompatuck State Park sits in Hingham, Massachusetts, roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive (about 20 miles) from downtown Boston via Route 3 and Route 228. Providence, Rhode Island is about 70 miles and 75 minutes southwest, and Cape Cod is roughly an hour south via Route 3. RV drivers should note that many South Shore parkways and lower Boston-area routes have commercial vehicle and height restrictions, so sticking to Route 3 and Route 228 is recommended; the park entrance road off Union Street is paved and accessible for large rigs. The nearest major airport for fly-and-rent trips is Boston Logan International, about 25 miles north.
