Late fall through early spring, roughly October to April, is the most comfortable window for visiting El Paso and the Franklin Mountains, with mild days and cool nights that suit Chihuahuan Desert hiking. Summer highs often exceed 95°F and can make exposed slopes dangerous by midday. Spring offers wildflowers and mild weather but also brings strong winds and blowing dust. Winter is generally dry and sunny with occasional freezing nights, ideal for RVers chasing warm climates.

The Wyler site sits at the base of Ranger Peak in the Franklin Mountains and offers a scenic vantage of the gondola towers and desert foothills. With the tram ride itself closed, visitors typically view the area from the access road and nearby pullouts.
Franklin Mountains State Park is the largest urban wilderness park in the United States and sits adjacent to the tramway area. The Tom Mays Unit has several RV-accessible trailheads with loop hikes ranging from easy desert walks to strenuous summit climbs. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/franklin-mountains
Loop 375 (Transmountain Road) climbs over the Franklin Mountains and offers pullouts with views of El Paso, Ciudad Juarez, and the Rio Grande Valley. The grade is steep and winding, so smaller RVs handle it best.
Hueco Tanks is a day-use and camping park about 32 miles east of El Paso, famous for ancient pictographs and world-class bouldering. Reservations are required for entry, and the campground can accommodate RVs with electric and water hookups. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/hueco-tanks
Scenic Drive (Murchison Park) provides one of the best panoramic views of El Paso and the surrounding borderland from the south slope of the Franklins. The small parking area is not suited to large rigs, so park your RV in town and drive a tow vehicle.
Located near the Transmountain entrance to Franklin Mountains State Park, this small museum covers 14,000 years of regional human history. It has a free admission policy and a short interpretive trail through native Chihuahuan Desert plants.
The dry desert air and elevated foothills around the Franklin Mountains offer excellent night-sky viewing on the northern edge of the city. Pullouts along Transmountain Road are popular spots to stop and watch meteor showers and planetary conjunctions.
This was a last minute trip that many other RV owners declined. Roberto was available and willing. I have no complaints or negative things to say about any of my experience renting from him and his family. They were absolutely wonderful to work with. Communication was great, very fair owners, and they are just great people overall. Also, everything in the RV was clean and in order. The master bed is super comfy! Would recommend and would rent again.

Wyler Aerial Tramway, TX, United States
The site sits in northeast El Paso off McKinley Avenue, just minutes from Interstate 10 and U.S. 54. El Paso International Airport is about 10 miles away, making the city a practical fly-and-rent base for RV travelers. From Las Cruces, New Mexico the drive is roughly 45 miles, about one hour, and from Tucson it is about 320 miles on I-10. RVers should note the Transmountain Road (Loop 375) across the Franklin Mountains has steep grades and tight curves, and large rigs should stick to I-10 and U.S. 54 when moving through the city.
