Best time to visit Yuba State Park

Late May through early September is the prime window, when water temperatures warm enough for swimming, boating, and paddling. June and July bring peak crowds and busy weekends at the Oasis and Painted Rocks campgrounds, so reservations should be made well in advance. Shoulder months of May and September offer cooler nights, fewer boats on the reservoir, and easier campsite availability. Winter visits are quiet and primarily suited to day use and ice fishing when conditions allow.

Things to do at Yuba State Park

  • Boating on Yuba Reservoir
    RV parking available

Yuba Reservoir is the park's centerpiece for motorized boating, water skiing, and personal watercraft. The reservoir, when full, is 22 miles long and reaches a maximum depth of 80 feet, with improved boat ramps at Oasis and North Beach. Paved trailer parking at Oasis makes launching a tow-behind boat from an RV site straightforward. blm.gov/visit/yuba-lake-recreation-area

  • Fishing for Walleye and Perch Easy
    RV parking available

Yuba is one of Utah's best-known walleye fisheries. Fishing for walleye and yellow perch attracts visitors year-round, along with northern pike and channel catfish. Bank fishing is accessible from the Oasis day-use area and the North Beach shoreline. blm.gov/visit/yuba-lake-recreation-area

  • Sand Dune OHV Riding at Little Sahara Moderate
    RV parking available

Little Sahara Recreation Area, about 30 miles north of Yuba, offers open sand dune riding for ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes. The site is a popular day trip for RV campers staying at Yuba. Staging areas have level gravel parking suitable for toy haulers.

  • Swimming at North Beach Easy
    RV parking available

North Beach is the park's main sandy swim area on the northwest shore. Warm summer water temperatures and sandy beaches make it family-friendly for wading and paddling. Vehicle access is paved and includes day-use RV parking. blm.gov/visit/yuba-lake-recreation-area

  • Painted Rocks Shoreline Exploration Easy
    RV parking available

The Painted Rocks area on the west side of the reservoir features Native American petroglyphs on sandstone cliffs above the water. Visitors can access the rock art by boat or via a graded access road. The campground here is more primitive and best suited to self-contained RVs.

  • Kayaking and Paddleboarding Easy
    RV parking available

Calm mornings on the upper arms of Yuba Reservoir are ideal for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Launch points at Oasis and Eagle View give paddlers quick access to protected coves. Afternoon winds can pick up quickly, so early starts are recommended.

  • Birdwatching Along the Sevier River Inlet Easy
    RV parking available

The Sevier River inlet at the south end of the reservoir attracts shorebirds, waterfowl, and raptors. Spring and fall migrations bring the most variety. Pullouts along access roads offer roadside viewing without needing to unhitch.

How to get to Yuba State Park

The main entrance is reached via Interstate 15 to exit 202 (Yuba Lake) or exit 188, then a short drive east to the reservoir. The Yuba Special Recreation Area is 25 miles south of Nephi, just off Interstate 15, roughly 100 miles south of Salt Lake City (about a 1 hour 40 minute drive) and about 70 miles north of Richfield. I-15 is a wide, low-grade interstate route suitable for large RVs, with no tunnels or major passes on the direct approach, though access roads to Painted Rocks on the west side are narrower and partly unpaved. Salt Lake City International Airport is the nearest major airport for fly-and-rent travelers.
